This position in Wealth Management Operational (WM) Risk Management (ORM) is part of an independent "second line of defense”, that will proactively identify potential Operational Risks and ensure adequate controls are in place to guard against financial, operational, regulatory, or reputational risks to the firm.  The Operational Risk Management Team is also responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the control environment through on-going independent challenge and targeted reviews as well as other Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) credible challenge activities

The role focuses on providing effective Operational Risk oversight for Chase Wealth Management through independent and continuous oversight aligned with the firm-wide Operational Risk management framework. The role is primarily aligned to business functions within Wealth Management that are largely aligned to product oversight responsibilities.

Must execute the following objectives:

  • Manage ORMF objectives and requirements, as defined by Corporate Operational Risk
  • Manage the ORMF objectives and requirements
  • Be a trusted advisor and leverage subject matter knowledge to drive value added dialogue and informed risk based decisions
  • Assess the key risks associated with new business initiatives and change management activities and follow up with business owners to address mitigating actions on identified risks       
  • Understand the area’s RCSA, Key Risk & Performance Indicators, and other controls to identify negative trends and potential control gaps
  • Provide independent, objective view of the Business and/or function control environment, mitigation strategies and emerging risk
  • Maintain awareness of risk and control issues within the Business / function whether self-identified or from internal /external audit
  • Review internal and external Operational Risk events for opportunities to implement new preventive and detective controls
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of existing controls and provide business direction on opportunities for improvement
  • Undertake Targeted and Emerging Risk Assessments across key areas of risk
  • Foster effective partnerships and collaborate with Business and Control partners  
  • Participate in relevant CWM and/or WM governance forums or committees and perform credible challenge
  • Analyze risk concentration areas, risk profiles, and synthesize data from internal and external sources in order to identify operational risk areas which need to be assessed
  • Identify and assess severity and likelihood of issues for potential escalation and communication to senior Business Executives and Senior Risk Managers
  • Perform independent challenge assessment of adherence to RCSA standards and adequacy of the RCSA program
  • Understand the area’s Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Key Risk & Performance Indicators, and other controls to identify negative trends and potential control gaps. 

 

 

  • Strong knowledge of operations, and/or product support related business experience within Chase Wealth Management
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or other quantitative discipline is required
  • An advanced degree and/or professional certification, such as CFA is a plus
  • At least 7 - 10 years experience in Financial Institution Risk, Business Operations, Business Process Improvement, Audit or Compliance

  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to develop solutions to complex problems

  • Ability to understand business functions quickly and to assess the operational, financial, regulatory or reputational impact control issues

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; proven ability to provide recommendations with supporting rationale and present to senior stakeholders

  • Enthusiastic, self motivated, effective under pressure

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment including across LOBs and locations

  • Strong desk top skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Business Objects) with the ability to quickly learn new applications

  • Experience with executing or managing QA/QC testing activities is a plus

  • Understanding of control frameworks and participating in risk assessment analyses.

  • Experienced business writer with proven ability to review and edit testers’ written test related documents and ensure clear and concise descriptions of reviews and conclusions.

  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
