The Learning & Development Specialist IV works to identify, recommend and create solutions that help the lines of business (LOB) meet business goals. Oversees development and implementation of learning strategies to reimagine existing and new training programs and supports complex training projects that impact large business areas.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with a team of Learning & Development Specialists (LDS) to design and create effective training solutions that impact business results
  • Oversees development and implementation of the learning strategy which may include project management, learning solution development, measurement and evaluation strategy development, and other key aspects
  • Identifies innovative, cost-effective, impactful solutions that address all requirements, improve learner outcomes and deliver measurable results to the business
  • Communicates clearly and in a compelling way with all project stakeholders
  • Employs design thinking, digital design and agile development processes
  • Develops and deepens knowledge of training technology and innovation and leads others to embrace new solutions
  • Advocates for change, including new approaches and processes, and challenges the status quo with the line of business and within the learning organization with an eye on efficiencies and controls
  • Provides constructive feedback and guidance to other Learning & Development Specialists on all aspects of training projects including analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, usability, opportunity for LDS to develop the solution using authoring software and other development tools
  • Orchestrates work assignments for a team of peers based on capacity and capability to get the work done.
  • Reviews project documentation (performance agreement, training outline, training storyboard) for completeness, identifies opportunities for efficiencies and digital innovation
  • Reviews work for use of digital design principles, appropriate use of adult learning principles, and effectiveness at addressing the uncovered need/gap, opportunity to reduce future maintenance needs, etc.
  • Monitors and ensures projects stay on track and are delivered with focus on speed to market
  • Partners with eLearning and Delivery to improve and assess the effectiveness of training content
  • Ensures that all training materials are properly reviewed and approved by required business partners
  • Ensures all output meets internal team standards (quality, layout, templates)
  • Displays customer obsession by building strong relationships with the business, assists the Learning & Development Director with overall line of business relationship management
  • Develops and maintains a solid knowledge of LOB job roles, environment, goals, culture, key players, policies/procedures, and other critical business topics
  • Ensures the appropriate measurement and evaluation strategy is designed and executed to measure the effectiveness of projects
  • Ensures collaboration with training peers to identify efficiencies, opportunities to leverage content, design approach, best practices, and innovation
  • Ensures that LDSs embrace new training technologies and approaches with emphasis on “digital first” design that leads to learning solutions that are effective, but also efficient
  • Maintains strong knowledge of training industry trends, including innovation, digital learning and new delivery modalities
  • May lead all aspects of a project from Analysis to Evaluation on an as needed basis
  • May manage the inventory of learning resources (online, classroom, job aids, etc.) 


  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, organizational development, learning and development, instructional design, educational technology or similar degree (preferred)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in building organizational and employee capability (strongly preferred)
  • 3-5 years managing teams successfully (strongly preferred)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in design, developing, and implementing instructional design solutions (strongly preferred)
  • 3-5 years’ experience identifying root cause, performance gaps, recommending non-training solutions (preferred)
  • Proven experience managing digital media or instructional design projects
  • Strong consulting, negotiation and influence skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong self-awareness and sense of accountability
  • Proven accomplishment in building relationships with customers and internal clients
  • Proven ability to lead teams to meet objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully give and receive feedback at all levels of the organization
  • Strong analytical and questioning skills
  • Able to synthesize and distill large amounts of information into key messages
  • Financial services industry experience (preferred)
  • Expertise in advanced design tools (preferred)
  • Knowledge of LMS, course publishing, SCORM and AICC, eLearning taxonomy and the basics of Internet technology preferred
  • Some exposure to developing for mobile devices, HTML5, JavaScript and other client-side languages would be helpful but are not required
