The Vice President for Institutional Advancement at College of DuPage is responsible for designing and implementing an overarching advancement strategy along with comprehensive institutional advancement programs focused toward the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fund raising outcomes. The advancement function includes responsibility for annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and planned giving, and alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship, and advancement services.



  • Work closely with the President to establish fundraising strategies consistent with the College’s mission, vision, goals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Work closely with the President in all phases of his advancement and campaign leadership activities.
  • Serve as a member of the Cabinet and maintain close working relationships with members of the College of DuPage Foundation Board of Directors.
  • Create and execute strategic plans that utilize best practices in annual, major, and planned gift programs to meet fundraising goals.
  • Hire, develop, inspire, guide and supervise the entire advancement team toward accountable, goal-oriented outcomes.
  • Direct and communicate the College’s strategic advancement priorities, fund-raising priorities, and campaign strategies to the Executive Director, College of DuPage Foundation to ensure appropriate alignment.
  • Develop annual plans and budgets for the institutional Advancement organization.
  • Engage members of the campus community and enhance the culture of philanthropy. Maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty and Deans whose cooperation is essential to effective institutional Advancement outcomes.
  • Devise and implement effective internal and external messaging and methods of advancement communication.
  • Identify opportunities and effectively executes strategies for enhancing relationships with the philanthropic community and potential partners. Serve as an exemplary College advocate in the community and with local leaders, organizations, business and corporate partnerships, and build relationships that closely link the community with the College.
  • Actively involved in the advancement profession and keep College of DuPage visible among higher education peer institutions.
  • All other duties as assigned by the President.


REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated progressive experience as a leader in a complex advancement environment.
  • Experience maintaining successful and ongoing interaction with a governing board and institutional leaders.
  • Five or more years of direct people leadership where he or she led and motivated staff within an environment of high expectations. This will include experience motivating and leading volunteers.
  • Proven record of fundraising success include cultivating major gifts from a diverse set of potential donors as well as campaign planning/execution
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.
  • Extensive travel is required to support his or her work and as a representative of the College.
  • Strong speaking and presentation skills, and proficient writing skills self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically and to successfully mediate and negotiate with individuals and groups internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with ambiguity and to overcome obstacles.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public affairs, business, or a related field.

PREFFERED:

  • Master's degree in communications, marketing, public affairs, business, or a higher education related field.
  • Earned Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) distinction.
  • Prior experience as a senior level advancement professional in a community college.
  • Exhibits fundamental knowledge of higher education philanthropy and its potential impact on faculty success and student performance.
