The job

American is transforming the way we deliver software and solutions for our customers and this role is a new one at American. As part of this transformation the UX organization is aligning to a Portfolio and Product based culture and we are looking to hire a UX intern. 

  

This job is a member of the User Experience (UX) and Digital Customer Experience team within the Customer Experience organization. The UX intern will have a passion for user-centric experiences, help us to establish a UX practice within an enterprise, a keen eye for detail, process analysis capabilities and project management skills.

 

You’ll be responsible for assisting a newly formed UX governance team in defining strategies and operational excellence at scale as well as help the Design Systems team create re-usable components, document their use and lend a hand creating UX tools that can be utilized by the UX organization.

 

Principal duties and responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with teams to maintain our design system for consistency
  • Participate in the planning around growing a design system 
  • Learn new technologies, improve and optimize existing technologies 
  • Assist in maintaining design libraries and artifacts, such as sketch library files, GIT workflow 
  • Write and review technical documentation for design components and user interaction 
  • Provide oversight of and tactical support to the governance team  
All you'll need for success
  • Pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, Psychology or related fields
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
  • Familiarity with web accessibility and compliance
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS and Javascript knowledge
  • Relentless focus on customer centricity
  • Passion for innovation and advancing UX as a craft  
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills 
  • Understanding UX best practices and user centered design principles
