Within Global Development at Amgen we are committed to excellence in study design and operational execution to enable us to bring more medicines to more patients more quickly. We recently developed new capabilities to support this effort, and we are looking for an undergrad intern to play a key role in supporting and assessing the successful implementation of some of these capabilities.

The Global Development department has implemented a new role to support the design and operational planning of our clinical trial protocols. The Operational Design Analytics (ODA) is outstanding role that will be a resource to study teams to curate and interrogate data in a consistent and efficient manner and provide enrollment projections at the indication, study and country level based on data. The ODA role will develop standard methodologies for using data to optimize trial performance. The ODA will be working with product and study teams during trial design, planning and study start-up to drive the use of data sources at Amgen to inform program strategy and the operational design of clinical trials at Amgen.

To ensure we are successful in the implementation of the new role and to identify adjustments required as we go we are maintaining a cross functional implementation team, made up of key partner representatives.

The intern position will be part of this implementation team and will support the evaluation of the implementation progress. The intern will have true insight into how to use data to inform strategic planning.

Project description:

The project will be to expand a user interface of an existing platform. This will include working closely with the ODA roles and cross functional partners. Working closely with the ODA roles to develop a process map will also be in scope for this project.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Operational Design Analytics implementation team to learn the business changes.
  • Participates in clinical trial protocol development sessions to gain experience and insight into the process and roles.
  • Support the Operational Design Analytics role in their work to bring data to teams to help inform program strategy and operational design of clinical trials.
  • Takes a role in supporting evaluation of the success of implementation of the new process and role
  • In partnership with team leads develop implementation assessment plan including interviews with key partners
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to translate requests for a new user interface design.
  • Build/Maintain a process flow for the new ODA role
  • Build readable and insightful data visualizations to communicate data insights to business partners


Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Data Science/Analytics, Data Engineering or Computer Engineering

Familiarity with drug development and clinical trails

Strong social skills, quick learner and good communication skills

Ability to query data bases

Experience with SQL and R

Ability to pull and summarize data from data sources

Interest in drug development specifically in Data Science/Analytics
