Amgen's manufacturing facility in West Greenwich, RI is looking for students with outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership capabilities. An internship at Amgen is a hands-on learning experience under the guidance of an Operations Manager. Interns are matched to meaningful and challenging projects.

Participation as an intern has the potential to lead to an offer to join the Rotational Leadership Development Program or other entry level full time position upon college graduation, depending on available positions and an evaluation of your performance.

Process Development Cell Culture Process Engineering

We have a position available for an undergrad intern to join our Cell Culture Process Engineering team for a 10-12 week period at our Rhode Island Site. The candidate will be part of a team focused on cell culture bioprocessing optimization and drug substance manufacturing support. Coaching, mentorship, and guidance will be provided to the intern as they engage in the learning process of the following technical support activities:
  • Apply basic fundamentals of engineering and science to mammalian cell culture unit operations to support commercial manufacturing processes:
    • bioreactor design and control
    • scale-up media development
    • analytics for process monitoring (in-situ and in-silico)
  • Evaluate process capabilities to develop and implement process and yield improvement opportunities.
  • Perform data analytics and knowledge management tasks to support process development.


Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
  • Completion of at least one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
  • Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Pursing a degree in Engineering or Science (Chemical, Biotechnology, Biochemical, Biomedical, Microbiology)
  • GPA 3.5 or higher
  • Freshman Standing
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills
  • Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and adaptability
  • Proven leadership experience on campus (e.g., projects, clubs, organizations, sports)
