Amgen's 10 - 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient's lives. This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

US Government Affairs / International engages with the Administration, relevant federal agencies, Embassies, and trade associations on legislative and policy issues related to trade, market access, biosimilars, and intellectual property (IP).

Amgen's internship program in Washington DC offers a unique experience to see first-hand how companies like Amgen work to improve patients' lives through public policy and advocacy. This internship provides the opportunity to learn about different aspects of U.S. government affairs, International relations, healthcare public policy, and trade policy.

The intern will be expected to complete some combination of the below projects:
  • Review of global IP landscape and current trends
  • A review of upcoming trade agreements and likely scenarios. In particular studying pharmaceutical trade history as a way towards influencing debate on future policies
  • A deep dive into market access trends particularly developments in price sharing and price transparency
  • The project will involve a certain level of external relations comprising attendance at a wide range of trade association, business council and government meetings under the direct supervision of the Director for US Government Affairs/ International
  • The role is meant to give insight into how a major US corporation operates its government affairs function


At the conclusion of the internship, the intern shall present a power point presentation to the US Government Affairs/ International team, a memo on selected topics, as well as any other special reports as deemed appropriate. These projects will provide the intern an insight into how business and government affairs plans are prepared for multinational companies with a focus on leveraging the global commercial diplomacy function of the US government.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's or Combined Bachelor's/Master's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree Concentration(s) in Political Science, International Relations, International Trade, Business Administration and Management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong research skills
