  • ​This job is a member of the Information Technology Team within the Information Technology Division.
  • ​The successful candidate will join a team responsible for developing the next generation Crew Watch/Recovery product suite.  
  • The Crew Watch/Recovery product suite is used by American Airline’s System Operations Control departments to manage crews through the use of sophisticated optimization algorithms and modeling techniques.
What you'll do
  • Candidate will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle using best practices in object-oriented techniques and Agile.  
  • Evaluates requirements and enhancement requests and proposes solutions to Crew Watch/Recovery product suite with careful consideration to cost, impact, and compatibility with other systems.  
  • Formulates and executes implementation plan for delivery of requested functionality.  
  • Analyzes, reviews, creates, and alters existing software and software artifacts to implement new requirements.  
  • Actively participates in software design and peer code reviews.  
  • Mentor and coach team members as well as provide leadership, task assignment, and oversight of task completion.  
  • Responsible for development, enhancement, and maintenance of the products under their charge.  
  • Monitors performance and provides support of application after implementation.  
  • May provide training on how to use new or enhanced application.  
  • Provides technical assistance and partners with end users to solve operating problems.  
  • Investigates and resolves problems with software products and systems.  
  • Oversee installation of hardware and software.
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
Requires 5+ years of application development experience, including 4+ years of Java SE experience and 3+ years of Java EE experience with some experience serving as a Team Lead
Requires strong working knowledge of JSP, SQL, Message Queue, Spring, Hibernate, Oracle, IBM WebSphere Application Server, Struts, HTML, XML, JavaScript, Swing, UNIX/Linux and object-oriented methodologies
Requires knowledge, understanding, and experience with Agile principles, preferably Scrum in complete software development lifecycle
Requires ability to work effectively with developers, architects, project managers, business analysts, and business unit partners
Must be able to work well within a team environment as well as independently
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be able to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

Applicants must have a degree in Engineering or Computer Science; MS in Computer Science is preferred
Airline industry experience is a plus.
Familiarity and/or working experience with Adobe Flex is a plus; strong knowledge of UML is preferred
Skills, Licenses & Certifications

Experience leading a software development team
Experience with Cognos, SQL, DataStage, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, and GitHub or Subversion
Strong knowledge, understanding, and experience with Agile principles, preferably Scrum in complete software development lifecycle
Ability to work effectively with developers, architects, project managers, business analysts, and business unit partners
Must demonstrate technical leadership, and be able to work well within a team environment as well as independently
