Summary:

Under minimal supervision, the Sr Instrument Technician is responsible for performing calibration, repair, installation, troubleshooting, loop checks, maintenance, and documentation of instruments and equipment used in Supply Chain incoming, dispensing and warehouse area. All work must be completed to assure minimal impact to production while aligning with cGMP and Amgen regulations.

Functions:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot specialized equipment such as Cassette Testing Machine, Force Test Machine, and Isolators (nitrogen overlay glovebox).
  • Perform advanced calibrations of instruments and equipment such as Optical Comparators, Stand Alone Freezers, Weight Balances, Temperature Transmitters, Callipers, and Go No Go gauges.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instruments, equipment and computer-based process control systems.
  • Assist the team with maintaining an up-to-date working spare parts inventory system for the equipment/ systems the team is responsible for.
  • Ensure that work order documentation is completed with accurate information.
  • Develop, revise, and review SOPs for work related areas.
  • All work must be completed in accordance with CFRs, cGMPs, SOPs, and Amgen policies.
  • Perform regular certification of equipment to verify conformance to industry standards and Amgen procedures.
  • Plan and schedule own work activities and coordinate work done by contractors with operations staff to minimize impact to production activities.
  • Interpret and update loop sheets, electrical schematics, P&ID's, I/O wiring, and panel drawings. Assist in start-up of new equipment to ensure it meets design specifications.
  • Assist with the execution of validation documents for instrumentation equipment.
  • Comply with Safety guidelines, cGMPs and regulatory requirements. Perform general housekeeping.
  • Enforce to OSHA, DOT and Amgen policies and regulations, and others as required. Participate in group/dept specific projects.
  • Maintain compliant training records.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment.
  • Identify and report operational issues and process improvement opportunities to leadership and propose solutions and assist in addressing.
  • May serve as a point of contact to internal and some external customers for daily operational matters.

Education/Licenses:

Associate's degree & 4 years of directly related experience

or

High school diploma / GED & 6 years of directly related experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree is required for the position and 4 years' experience in manufacturing, engineering or operations experience.
  • Subject Matter Expert on Cassette Testing Machine, Force Test Machine, and Isolators
  • Solid Knowledge and Experience with Optical Comparators, Stand Alone Freezers, Weight Balances, Temperature Transmitters, Callipers, and Go No Go gauges calibration, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Demonstrates Amgen values.

Proficiencies/Skills:

  • A skilled craftsperson knowledgeable of pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic instrumentation.
  • Basic understanding of process control loops and process control systems, including those that are computer based.
  • Has received training or hands on experience in such specialized subjects as theory of control, analog and/or digital electronics, microprocessors and/or computers, and the operation and maintenance of particular lines of field instrumentation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas through verbal and written form
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Ability to interact constructively with peers/teams
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with higher level outside resources
  • Ability to understand, apply, and evaluate basic science principles
  • Ability to adhere to regulatory requirements, written procedures and safety guidelines
  • Ability to evaluate documentation/data according to company and regulatory guidelines
  • Ability to prioritize work, handling multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and requirements.
