The Department of Oncology Discovery Research at Amgen, Thousand Oaks is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist (SAS) to contribute to the discovery and validation of Amgen's next generation of innovative oncology therapeutics using novel 'Induced Proximity' platforms such as PROTACs to inactivate currently 'undruggable' targets.

The SAS will be an integral member of a dynamic research team, with an opportunity to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams within Amgen's Discovery Research organization. The SAS is expected to make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the group goals, present their results in both internal and external forums, and participate in the writing of manuscripts for publication. Specific responsibilities include independently designing experimental strategy, planning and performing laboratory experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and communicating results in team meetings.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree or Doctorate degree completed by June 2020

Ph.D. and post-doctoral training in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology with a background in cancer biology and ubiquitin-dependent pathways that target to the proteasome and lysosome

A strong skillset in molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, si/shRNA, CRISPR-Cas9), biochemical assays (e.g. proximity assays, immunoprecipitations, western blotting) and cellular assays (e.g. cell culture, reporter assays, viability assays, and immunofluorescence) is highly desirable

Experience with target identification and validation or supporting the early stages of drug discovery

Track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement, supported by a strong publication record and/or significant contributions to a drug discovery program
