The Amgen Biologics Optimization group is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join the Protein Biochemistry team at our state-of-the-art research facility in Thousand Oaks, CA (ATO). Biologics Optimization is responsible for the performance, production, assessment, and selection of large molecule therapeutic drug candidates. The successful candidate will be a part of a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression and purification of large molecule drug candidates. The Senior Associate Scientist will apply their scientific expertise to assist in the identification and optimization of promising therapeutic candidates to treat serious illnesses and advance Amgen's mission to serve patients.

Position Responsibilities

Apply protein biochemistry expertise to purify and analyze therapeutic drug candidates

Drive innovation through the development of novel processes that increase capabilities, speed, throughput and/or quality

Deliver scientific data to support writing of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions

Contribute to internal and external scientific outreach

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree or Doctorate degree completed by June 2020

Ph.D with postdoc training in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology

Experience in protein purification, particularly biologics molecules

Expertise in a variety of chromatographic techniques, operation of liquid chromatography instruments (FPLC's) and the application of related software (Unicorn, ChromLab)

Familiarity with protein analytical techniques (HPLC, MCE, etc…) and the used of related software (Chromeleon, LabChip)

Knowledge of high throughput purification and analytical techniques is a plus

Ability to multi-task, work flexibly and efficiently in a cross-functional environment

Ability to analyze and interpret results of moderate complexity

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong knowledge of Protein Chemistry, highly motivated, creative, collaborative, and works under minimum supervision
