The department of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Associate to join the PKDM In vivo group in Thousand Oaks, California. The successful candidate will contribute to Amgen's multimodality discovery and development portfolio by conducting mechanistic in vivo research. The technical tasks include performing procedures on laboratory rodents such as handling/restraint, surgical manipulation, dose administration of therapeutic candidates via multiple routes, clinical health assessments, biological specimen collection and necropsy. Additional tasks include maintaining experimental notebooks, computer files, assisting with study design and protocol generation, and tabulating data. In addition, the successful candidate will possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to work well in teams, will demonstrate technical aptitude and a strong work ethic. The individual will also be responsible for review and compliance with all applicable SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), business practices and company policies.

The primary core responsibilities of the Senior Associate will include:
  • Design and execution of mechanistic in vivo PK/ADME ( Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion) studies in rodents for project teams with a strong emphasis on turnaround time, quality, and delivering key exposure data that drives project decisions and contributes to early identification of ADME liabilities of new molecular entities.
  • Work closely with PKDM team members, effectively communicate with project team representatives and actively participate/collaborate cross functionally.


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in life sciences such as biology, chemistry, animal science or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience working with rodents in a bio-pharmaceutical and/or academic laboratory environment.
  • Highly proficient in constant rate infusions and PO gavage, IV, IP, SC, and IM ( Intravenous, Intraperitoneal ,Subcutaneous,Intra-muscular) injections in rodents.
  • Expert in specimen and excreta collection in rodents, including micro-sampling.
  • Experienced in aseptic survival surgical manipulations in rodents specific to PK/ADME research.
  • Skilled in necropsy and tissue fixation for histology processing.
  • Competent in operating Culex and Instech automated blood sampling systems.
  • Experience working with radioactive isotopes is desired.
  • AALAS and/or ASR certification is a plus. (American Association for Laboratory Animal Science ,Academy of Surgical Research)
