  • Provides support ensuring the safety risk management processes within Flight Operations, complies with FAA regulations (Part 5 - SMS), American Airlines Policy (Safety & Security Policy & Procedures Manual - SSPM) and the Flight Operations Policy & Procedures Manual (FOPPM).

What you'll do

As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced.  Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations.

  • Responsible for daily analysis of all submitted pilot irregularity reports (app 1000/month), tracks corrective actions to ensure they have been completed, follows up with appropriate departments to ensure completion
  • Assists with implementation of CERS project replacing current pilot reporting system
  • Completes and analyzes Risk Management Worksheets to support the Flight Operations safety management process
  • Accountable for cross-departmental SMS data sharing meetings
  • Facilitates FAA regulatory correspondence and investigations
  • Participates in and supports the Flight Operations Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • Documents SMS and ERP training
  • Develops and presents required presentations for the monthly Operational Data Analysis Working Group and the Flight Test Data Analysis Working Group
  • Assists with the observation/audit process
  • Ensures Flight Operations compliance with the Safety Management System requirements
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years related operational experience
  • Experience with Corporate Event Reporting System (CERS) and Dispatch Environmental Control System (DECS)


Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Former aviation safety and/or SMS background and/or flight experience


Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Knowledge of Flight Operations Department for a FAA Part 121 major air carrier
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately, while taking direction from several sources
  • Ability to be team oriented and work cooperatively with other team members to manage the varying workload and collectively meet department goals
  • Skilled in Excel and PowerPoint presentations
