This Specialist Paralegal may be located at either Amgen's corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California or at Amgen's South San Francisco site, with the preference being Thousand Oaks.

The Specialist Paralegal will be part of a legal team that supports Amgen's Business Development group in a variety of life sciences transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, collaborations, and in-licenses and out-licenses involving biotech and pharmaceutical products and technology. This Specialist Paralegal will work closely with other Amgen functional groups (R&D, Finance, Operations, Commercial), and coordinate with various members of the Law Department. This position will provide support on a combination of the above types of transactions as well as equity investments by Amgen's venture fund and/or ongoing alliances with Amgen's key partners.

Job responsibilities include:

Provide legal services of comprehensive scope and complexity in a time sensitive environment

Draft and negotiate contracts in time sensitive environment

Analyze a variety of contract issues and recommend resolutions

Communicate (written and orally) effectively with internal clients and external parties

Manage special projects as assigned

Understand and comply with all relevant procedures and policies

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate Degree
OR

Master's Degree and 2 years of legal experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of legal experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of legal experience

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 12 years of legal experience

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program

4+ years of experience in a paralegal role drafting and negotiating contracts with a Fortune 500 corporation (preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry) or a nationally recognized law firm

Excellent analytical and legal drafting skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Ability to handle, prioritize and follow through on a high volume of work

Attention to detail

Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and to participate in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment

Competency in use of relevant systems and processes
