Amgen is seeking a talented Software Engineer to build leading edge scientific applications with modern technology stacks that will be used by our research partners to drive Amgen's innovation in drug discovery. The exceptional candidate will join our talented Research Informatics team to deliver solutions by leveraging best practices in Agile and DevOps. This Software Engineer position will report to the Director, Research Informatics and support our Research partners in designing and implementing IS solutions for Discovery, Non-Clinical & Early Development.

The Research Informatics team supports discovery research and translational sciences globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen's pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. Our success in informatics is driven by our commitment to the IS Vision -

The primary responsibilities of this role are:
  • Lead technical and scientific teams to create end to end Informatics solutions in support of Research activities to discover lead drug candidates
  • Identify and utilize cutting-edge technologies in the industry to meet scientific business needs
  • Partner with Research functional areas and lead discussions to identify scientific needs to improve drug discovery informatics platforms
  • Ensure effective communication between scientific area management, technical staff and vendors to analyze scientific needs and implement informatics solutions in data acquisition, integration and analysis
  • Provide technical support & training platforms for Amgen's drug discovery Research software application platform
  • Manage vendor and external business partners relationships


Basic Qualification
  • Doctorate degree
  • Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • Associates degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
  • OR
  • High School diploma/ GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated track record of designing and delivering innovative IS solutions
  • Experienced in data analytics, visualization, database technologies, scientific process engineering, semantic technologies or deep learning
  • 3+ years of experience in agile software methodology
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business and technology partners.
  • Self-motivated individual with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams
  • Experience in Pharmaceutical Discovery, Informatics, Bioinformatics, Genomics or Data Science
  • Proficiency in software development languages including but not limited to Java and C#
  • Experience in the Bio-Pharmaceutical industry focusing on software development and business analysis
  • Strong experience working with agile methodology & DevOps frameworks (Docker, Jenkins, JIRA, GitLab, Maven, Sonar Cube, Airflow) with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong data analysis and reporting experience by leveraging analytics, visualization and database technologies (Oracle, PL SQL, Spotfire, Tableau, Python - NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)
  • Experience in Cloud (AWS, databricks platforms)& HPC (high performance computing) environments
  • Experience in developing and supporting web applications including familiarity with web technologies and frameworks (EXTJS, D3, React.js)
  • Ability to quickly learn and deploy Informatics tools to enable therapeutic discovery and optimization.
  • Experience in translating business requirements to technical requirements and recommend solutions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
