Position Purpose

The Center for Open Neuroscience (http://centerforopenneuroscience.org/) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth, lead by Research Associate Professor Yaroslav Halchenko, is developing many popular open neuroinformatics solutions, including PyMVPA, NeuroDebian, and DataLad. We are looking for a full-time software developer to work on the following NIH and NSF supported projects. DANDI https://dandiarchive.org/) is a collaborative (MIT/Dartmouth/Kitware) project to establish a contemporary platform for publishing, sharing, and processing neurophysiology data funded by the NIH BRAIN Initiative. DataLad (https://www.datalad.org) is a versatile decentralized system for managing scientific digital objects, from code to large datasets. The ReproNim project https://www.repronim.org) develops solutions to improve reproducibility in neuroimaging and beyond.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

All our projects are developed completely in the open, so this is an excellent opportunity to make a valuable and visible contribution to the ecosystem of scientific software, and to get hands-on experience in the full cycle of open-source development and deployment. We are collaborating with many other excellent projects and initiatives in the scope of these efforts (incluging MIT , Kitware, Juelich Research Center Germany), so it is also an excellent opportunity to establish working collaborations with leading projects in open neuroscience.

Code development and maintenance:

  • open source development using contemporary infrastructure for collaboration (such as https://github.com) and platforms for distributing and deploying software (such as Debian, and conda) and datasets,
  • utilization of containerized (Singularity, Docker, etc.) and cloud ( AWS ) solutions,
  • design, implement, and thoroughly test code necessary for a project's functionality.

Communication and support:

  • timely report activities and submission of code development for public review,
  • interact with other members of the team via instant messaging, mailing lists and GitHub,
  • troubleshoot and resolve user-reported issues,
  • demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Travel:

  • may need to travel to scientific conferences to help exhibiting and presenting project to the community.
