The Department of Oncology and Inflammation Research at Amgen South San Francisco (ASF), is seeking a creative, self-motivated Senior Scientist to discover and develop T cell immunotherapies for the treatment of cancer. The Senior Scientist will have a strong understanding of immunology and oncology, a record of leading project teams and managing a research laboratory, and have strong track record of high-impact publications and presentations at scientific conferences. At Amgen, the Senior Scientist will be responsible for identifying new targets, proposing new therapeutic approaches, and guiding target validation studies and evaluation of therapeutic candidates in the area of T cell immunotherapies. The Senior Scientist will independently lead a research group as well as project teams, and will collaborate with team members across multiple Amgen sites and functional areas to deliver therapeutic candidates. As a key team member of early stage clinical programs, the Senior Scientist will provide guidance based on nonclinical learnings and serve as the main point of contact for external nonclinical collaborations. Senior Scientist will be expected to publish regularly and to present at national/international conferences.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience

OR

Master's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 7 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or MD, with postdoctoral training and research experience in the fields of Immunology, Oncology, and Cancer Immunotherapy

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievements in the areas of Immunology or Oncology as demonstrated by high impact publications

Demonstrated experience in leading independent research and/or drug development

Scientific and technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:

1. T cell biology and adoptive cell therapies for the treatment of cancer
2. Complex cell-based functional assays & multi-color flow cytometry
3. 3D organoid cultures and in vivo mouse models of disease
4. Genetic manipulation of cell lines and/or primary cells
5. Bioinformatics analysis

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Prior experience managing or mentoring junior research associates or scientists
