About The Job

This job falls in the Crew Scheduling Team in the Integrated Operations Division. Responsible for leading and overseeing the team that develops, administers, and maintains an FAA and AA approved SMS program for Crew Scheduling extended team including all related operations groups, Crew Compensation, and administration / leadership teams.  This job also manages all risk assessments, audits, documentation and presentations related to SMS for the Crew Scheduling extended team.


Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Oversees and builds a team of analysts and manages their time to develop, administer and maintain a Crew Scheduling team SMS program such that we ensure the safety of the AA employees, the integrity of the operation and adherence to AA and FAA SMS standards and audits stakeholders
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety management system processes within their area of responsibility, to include: hazard identification and risk assessment/analysis, assuring the effectiveness of risk controls, promoting safety and a just safety culture, and working through the IOC Safety Management System processes, on the performance of the safety management system and on any need for improvement
  • Manages the creation and implementation of policies, procedures and training to identify and manage risks at acceptable levels and for ensuring responsiveness to all identified or reported safety concerns
  • Ensures that the Crew Scheduling Safety Assurance (SA) process is designed to meet the requirements defined in the American Airlines Safety Policies & Procedures, and for documenting the department SA policies and procedures
  • Oversees the Crew Scheduling department compliance with the American Airlines Safety Management System Policies & Procedures, as documented in the American Airlines Safety Policies & Procedures Manual, and in accordance with 14CFR Part 5
  • Participates in the IOC Safety Management & Analytics Review Team (IOC SMART) and the IOC Data Analysis Group (DAG) for the purposes of Risk Escalation and Data Analysis
  • Collaborates with IT providing business requirements for SMS projects and implementation
  • Assists Crew Scheduling Training team in development and facilitation of training material, as needed
  • Must be able to report to work on a regular and timely basis
  • Must be able to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Must be able to travel for work as needed


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience/training
  • 7 years’ experience in a Crew Scheduling or Crew Resource environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to lead based on the American Airlines leadership model
  • Strong customer service focus (internal and external)
  • Knowledge of American Airlines Safety Policies & Procedures Manual and 14CFR Part 5
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of various operational and administrative processes associated with crew scheduling and contracts
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Knowledge of airline applications
  • Knowledge of quality management, program analysis skills and testing techniques
  • Knowledge of FOS SABRE
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to be flexible and capable of adapting to constant change
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle tasks concurrently
  • Ability to prepare and delivery written and verbal presentations
  • Ability to use reference materials and other resources to complete tasks
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines and prioritize tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful environment
  • Ability to work and collaborate all levels of management and union groups
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis
