About the Role

The Senior Engineer, Product Validation - (Electrical Systems) role is vital to GILLIGs growth and future product development. This individual will be guided by technical requirements to conduct system and vehicle level design verification (DV) and production validation (PV) tests to confirm achievement of these requirements within established program time plans. This position reports to the Manager of Systems Validation.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Duties/Competencies (About the Role)

  • Support activities within the work group to develop and deploy engineering standards for defining and managing vehicle and system level requirements along with the associated design verification (DV) and production validation (PV) plans for new models
  • Support activities within the work group to develop and deploy engineering standards to define and manage various physical and virtual test procedures required to confirm compliance with vehicle and system level requirements for new models and to confirm complete traceability between requirements, test results and test reports
  • Utilize program targets, system requirements and various control documents to develop and release comprehensive DV/PV plans, reports, recommendations and all other documentation in support of design and development activities
  • Plan and execute established DV/PV plans for associated vehicle systems and the entire vehicle. Accurately report results and collaborate with related Design Engineering COEs to identify root cause of any failures, recommendations for improved specifications and opportunities for refinement (performance improvement, cost reduction, weight reduction, etc.)
  • Design and configure test beds and/or simulations to develop and validate system capabilities prior to vehicle integration
  • Develop and manage precise vehicle performance simulation models that can be collaborated and shared with COEs for confirming required performance parameters
  • Work closely with the integration teams to understand instrumentation requirements, then develop and deploy instrumentation and data acquisition strategies, data analysis methodologies and best practices for planning and conducting effective and timely testing activities that fulfill project requirements
  • Coordinate and document requirements, design verification and validation work with component/subsystem/system suppliers or external testing resources/facilities to support overall program validation plan
  • Function as the lead technical resource at external facilities

About You

  • Demonstrated technical responsibility in automotive, on/off highway or transportation equipment
  • Demonstrated experience with ICE, electrified powertrains, collision avoidance and autonomous vehicle technology, root cause analysis, chassis/body structures, steering/suspension systems, air brake systems, vehicle dynamics, testing, validation
  • Relevant experience in HD vehicle systems engineering and integration is a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, SAE HD vehicle standards, NFPA
  • BSEE required
  • 5+ years of progressive product engineering experience
  • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking, collects and researches data, uses intuition and experience to complement data. Makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a matrixed, fast paced, high growth and changing environment
  • Experience in developing systems requirements, validation and verification strategies, and verification planning as well as facilitating the successful completion of verification compliance activities.
  • Experience with defining and managing interfaces, interface requirements and interface verification.
  • Strong foundation in systems design and management, product design and development, engineering systems analysis for design and manufacturing
  • Exceptional analytical skills developing systems performance models
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, detail oriented, highly organized documentation practices
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
