Amgen is searching for a Senior Associatein our Partnership Accounting team. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Accounting. his Senior Associate will play a key role in the Partnership Accounting area and actively manage various partnership agreements (including royalties, cost-sharing, profit-shares and/or milestones). The Accounting Senior Associate will have frequent interaction with cross functional teams and must demonstrate the ability to be able to translate business strategy into actionable plans and execute the partnership agreements.

Primary responsibilities will include the following:
  • Review partnership agreements and effectively interact with the deal team, alliance management, legal and FP&A teams to interpret the agreement terms
  • Implement new agreements and develop processes to properly account for the various financial terms of the agreement (i.e., milestones, cost recoveries, profit share, royalties)
  • Manage the outsourced & off-shore accounting service provider team to complete month-end/quarter-end accounting close process, to prepare account analysis, variance analysis and management reporting package, and to ensure financial controls and quality standards are met
  • Manage the outsourced & off-shore accounting service provider team to ensure the invoicing and settlement processes are in compliance with the terms of the collaboration agreements
  • Interact and work cross-functionally with a wide range of internal business partners (FP&A, Alliance Management, Legal, Tax) and external partners, and provide accounting support and guidance as required
  • Preparation or review and approval of financial schedules such as footnote disclosures, close reporting deliverables, and providing support for other ad hoc schedules, as needed
  • Manage the key balance sheet analysis review process (i.e., intangibles and partner receivables) and communicate results effectively in quarterly meetings with management and the business
  • Provide audit support to internal and external auditors and mange financial audits, SOX audits and partner audits
  • Take initiative, analyze current process and lead business review meetings. Be able to identify control risks and process improvement opportunities


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree


OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of finance experience


OR
  • Associate's degree and 6 years of finance experience


OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 8 years of finance experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4+ years of corporate or public accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA
  • Audit or Big 4 Public Accounting experience
  • Comprehensive accounting knowledge on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards that apply to Biopharmaceutical industry, including areas like R&D, Manufacturing, M&A, Licensing, etc
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills and be able to bridge culture differences
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills. Be able to work independently. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with SAP and BW, Hyperion, EDW applications
