Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate Alliance Management Operations, to based out of our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA, who will support critical change initiatives for the Research and Development (R&D) organization.The Senior Associate, known internally as the Senior Associate of Business Development, will report to the Business Development Director.

The Senior Associate Alliance Management Operations responsibilities include:
  • Serves as the owner of an Alliance Management Center of Excellence, including tools, enabling capabilities and activities such as the Lessons Learned Process, Partnership Planning Tool, Alliance Kick-off Playbook and Alliance Health-Check Capability
  • Identifies, supports, and at times, leads, special projects and initiatives to improve Amgen's Alliance Management, efficiencies and capabilities working directly with the Head of Alliance Management, alliance managers and cross-functional stakeholders involved in managing partnerships
  • Owns the ongoing publication of partnership portfolio reports, alliance assignment lists, and related metrics
  • Serves as the business owner for Alliance Management systems and enabling technologies to support the capability, which includes close partnership to BD-IS business partners
  • Maintains and further develops the Alliance Management training curriculum, on-boarding process, and branding project
  • Creates and runs a process for identifying and addressing cross-partnership issues both within Alliance Management and within Amgen
  • Serves as an alliance manager on a limited number of out-licenses and alliances
  • Participates in special department, cross-functional, or team projects
  • Provides back-up coverage for and flex support alliance managers as needed


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of biopharmaceutical and/or life sciences experience

OR

Associate's degree and 6 years of biopharmaceutical and/or life sciences experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of biopharmaceutical and/or life sciences experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing or working on partnerships with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology organizations
  • Experience working in a drug development environment with the knowledge and ability to work with technical experts
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with business leaders from across the organization to drive decisions
  • Ability to interface and communicate with scientific and corporate staff at various levels
  • High emotional intelligence, coupled with refined interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Strong project management, organization, and facilitation skills
  • Experience with SharePoint
  • Quick learner who takes initiative to proactively drive projects from conception to completion with excellent people and communication skills, including oral, written and listening
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively both in teams and individually; works independently with minimal direction


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 7+ years' of experience in Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, particularly in Research and Development
  • 5+ years' of experience in a cross-functional business operations or project management role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research, Preclinical and Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory
  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment
