Overview

Our Team
The Business & Legal Affairs department is responsible for all business affairs and legal matters related to the acquisition and pre-broadcast review of all content used worldwide by Discovery Communications LLC’s television networks. More specifically, this group negotiates and drafts acquisition, commission, co-production and talent agreements; reviews scripts and rough cuts of programs prior to broadcast in order to minimize legal exposure; analyzes media rights associated with all programming agreements; responds to usage requests made by the company’s many lines of businesses; and provides advice and counsel on a wide array of production-related and legal issues such as guild, insurance, and rights clearances.


The Role
This position supports rights work for the digital production teams and digital businesses. This position also provides operational support to rights management group to enable a cohesive workflow across the group.



Responsibilities

1. To serve as a key contact for rights and clearance requests for the domestic digital businesses of the company, supporting the team and providing timely and accurate rights and clearance advice.
2. Perform rights entry into rights management system for original digital productions.
3. Provide rights support to the ancillary production teams, including marketing and creative.
4. Assist with processing of production deliverables and communicating rights restrictions to global business community.
5. Manage deal tracking and workflow for Network and creative teams.



Qualifications

Skills
* A proven skill base covering the above functions would be a key advantage. Prior legal or rights experience is essential.
* 1 – 2+ years of legal/programming rights & clearance experience.
* Must have strong IT skills in particular Excel and database exposure.
* Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively at all levels within the company.
* Clear and concise communicator (both orally and written).
* Well organized with excellent attention to detail.

* Must have the legal right to work in the United States


Knowledge
* Minimum of 2 years relevant contract analysis experience and BA degree or equivalent are required.

* The ideal candidate will be a bright, diligent self-starter.
* Extremely professional: calm under pressure, clear thinking, well organized, proactive and grasps concepts quickly.
* Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively at all levels within the company.
