Work independently on wearable and medical device design projects and support student and post-doctoral research and development projects. Maximize productivity of the laboratory through efficient and organized management and administration of day-to-day lab activities.

This position is funded by a grant. Continuation is based upon available funds.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Hardware/Software development and management
• Works with faculty, students, and technical staff to design hardware components for wearables, medical devices and medical imaging systems being developed.
• Works with faculty, students, and technical staff to design and develop software in support of research projects. Such software may include server, desktop, mobile, and embedded systems.
• Willing to work with prototype software and hardware, and with incomplete specifications, as research ideas evolve.
• Supports students and other research collaborators with mechanical/electrical system design, testing, debugging, and optimization.
• Writes and maintains documentation about the software, hardware, and experiments, including internal documentation and outward-facing websites.
• Establishes and manages systems for archiving and sharing software and research data, including source-code revision-control systems.

Experiment design, conduct, and data collection
• Assists in design and conduct of computing experiments and the analysis and presentation of data from those experiments, with a significant level of experience.
• Conducts testing of wearables and medical devices and analyzes data in order to evaluate system design and determine appropriate strategies for improving and optimizing hardware/software.
• Assists in the design and conduct of experiments and studies involving human subjects and animal models.
Documentation and reporting
• Assists in the preparation and writing of technical documentation, research papers, patent applications, grant proposals and grant reports.
• Responsible for preparing and maintaining web pages and web sites describing research projects.

Research support
• Assists in the organization and logistics of research meetings with on- and off-campus collaborators.
• Assists in researching, purchasing, configuring, installing, and managing software packages and electronic devices for use by the research group.
• Responsible for configuring and managing computing servers and training researchers in their use.
• Responsible for maintaining code libraries, bibliographies, mailing lists, and laboratory supplies.
• Oversees general laboratory operations and manages all activities related to proper use, availability, and performance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
• Effectively communicates and personally supports the College's values to foster inclusiveness and diversity.
Communication and professional development
• Develops understanding of diverse cultures through employee education programs.
• Communicates respectfully to a diverse community.
• Maintains a current knowledge of system software and hardware, by attending workshops, reading trade and scientific journals, and vendor documentation.
