Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Independently conducts laboratory experiments; identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design; methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities; modified research methods, procedures, and techniques to meet the unique requirements of assigned research problems. 65%
  • Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as graphs, charts, tables, statistical summaries, etc. Analyzes data resulting from experimentation/testing. Summarizes results and prepares progress reports for oral presentation. 10%
  • Instructs others in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required. Maintains computerized records associated with laboratory activities. 10%
  • Laboratory management: oversees general laboratory operations, supply inventory, monitors equipment and instrument performance and instructs others in proper laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques. Ensures compliance with rules and regulations related to handling hazardous wastes, radioactivity, and ensures compliance with proper safety procedures. Staff development, hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff and student assistants to meet changing department needs. 10%
  • May assist in animal research; including maintenance of mouse colonies, injections, breeding, in vivo assays and entering data into computerized databases. 5%
