Amyris is building an integrated renewable products company using breakthrough science and an innovative business model to address some of our planet's most daunting problems. Amyris first developed its technology under a non-profit initiative to provide a reliable and affordable source of artemisinin, a highly effective anti-malarial therapeutic and is now applying its industrial synthetic biology platform to provide alternatives to a broad range of petroleum-sourced products. Amyris No Compromise™ renewable fuels and chemicals are being designed to perform comparably to, or better than, the products they will replace.

Amyris is seeking a detail oriented and highly collaborative QC Associate to support Amyris global manufacturing. In this QC opportunity, you'll be supporting the quality control team to ensure tasks are completed with quality and integrity, and within the aggressive timelines assigned to you. You must be able to multi-task, adapt, and be flexible to changing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
    • Maintain sample inventory, sample preparation and analysis utilizing established SOPs (chromatography, titration, micro plating, etc.)
    • Maintenance and troubleshooting of QC analytical equipment, including GC, HPLC, DSC, melting point, titration apparatus, and ovens.
    • Impeccable attention to detail, organizational skills and record keeping is required. You should be able to lift and carry 20 lbs.
    • Sample logistics including receipt, labeling, inventory, submission and shipment to CMOs and CTOs ordering lab supplies and shipping samples to customers, CMOs, and other Amyris-affiliated sites.
    • Participate in and may lead periodic inventory updates, 5S and organization of QC lab space, lab clean-up, and safety walk throughs.
    • Where appropriate, the analyst will gain experience on process control charting and CoA generation.
    • Sample analysis using established protocols for chromatographic and titrimetric assays.
    • Data analysis involving both ESTD and ISTD calculations.
    • Where appropriate, statistical data analysis and trending to monitor control of assay data.
    • Basic instrument troubleshooting.


Qualifications
    • B.S. degree in chemistry or related discipline plus minimum 3+ year experience utilizing analytical chemistry techniques
    • Experience in biotechnology or related field of research preferred
    • Working knowledge of chromatography and data analysis, especially with GC, HPLC and titration
    • Knowledge of analytical software, e.g., Excel; Chemstation, Chromeleon or Empower is required
    • Experience using Microsoft Excel
    • Follow and execute on established SOPs
    • Instrument troubleshooting is a plus
    • Sample and data handling skills are mandatory
    • Experience in statistical data analysis and analytical software is a plus
    • Strong organization, communication, time-management and multi-tasking skills are mandatory
    • Comfortable working independently in a fast paced and highly expert environment
    • Energetic, highly self-motivated and able to work efficiently and productively in a start-up company environment
