Primary Function:

Provide overall management and direction for one or more projects and develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, or geographical area. Reports to Project Executive or Regional Executive, depending on project structure. Makes decisions that can greatly impact corporate relationship with clients and profitability of projects. Acts without daily supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

The project manager serves as the primary team leader and manager for the project, and develops and implements the project’s project delivery system in collaboration with other Boldt team members, trade contractors, customer representatives and other key project stakeholders, under the guidance and mentorship of his or her direct Boldt supervisor.

Typical Duties:

1. Safety: Lead the establishment and implementation of project specific safety goals, programs, and individual expectations, based upon company-developed standards and expectations. Oversee and assure team conformance with IIPP and SSSP. Review project metrics and develop counter-measure action plans to adjust performance, as needed.

2. People: In collaboration with Executive, develop project staffing plans and participate in identifying appropriate staff, either internal or through hiring process. Lead and mentor Boldt team members, as well as representatives of trade contractors, design professionals. Support a learning, continuous improvement culture, including “Small Wins” program. Provide supervision to Boldt direct reports including participation in appraisal and goal review process. Review project metrics and develop counter-measure action plans to adjust performance, as needed. Maintain and deepen customer relationship through performance.

3. Quality: Lead the establishment and implementation of Built in Quality (“BiQ”) Program, including the development of project specific quality goals, programs, and individual expectations, based upon company-developed Built in Quality standards and expectations. Oversee and assure team conformance with BiQ Program. Review project metrics and develop counter-measure action plans to adjust performance, as needed.

4. Schedule: Lead the establishment and implementation of Last Planner System (“LPS”) Program, including the development of project specific quality goals, programs, and individual expectations, based upon company-developed standards and expectations. Oversee and assure development and updating of Milestone Schedule based upon team input. Review project schedule and LPS metrics and develop counter-measure action plans to adjust performance, as needed.

5. Cost: Lead the establishment and implementation of Integrated Project Production and Financial Forecasting (“IPPFF”) Program, including the development of project specific financial goals, programs, and individual expectations, based upon company-developed standards and expectations. Oversee and assure team conformance with company expectations for procurement, contracting, risk management, change management, and financial reporting and forecasting. Review project metrics and develop counter-measure action plans to adjust performance, as needed.

General Project Manager responsibilities

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to management, including weekly reporting and monthly Project Execution Assessments
  • Schedule, lead and document, as appropriate, project meetings
  • Supervise documentation of all significant project events (e.g.: accidents, delays, Change Orders, etc.)

Assume additional responsibilities as directed by corporate executives.


Educational requirements include: Four year engineering degree or equivalent, plus extensive (ten or more years) experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance and management.


Additional required experience: Must be able to apply collaborative, innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee and team performance. Experience with Lean Project Delivery and Integrated Project Delivery preferred. Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and their impact on project activities vital; superior communication and interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) essential.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to walk and reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee frequently uses computer keyboard, regularly travels (as vehicle driver and as passenger on various modes of transportation), and occasionally performs work on-site at construction work sites. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor frequently. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles or caustic chemicals.
