About The Job

This job is a member of the Information Technology Team, within the Information Technology Division. This position will be responsible for leveraging cutting edge technology to solve business problems at American Airlines by participating in all phases of the development process from inception through transition, advocating the agile process and test-driven development, using object-oriented development tools to analyze, model, design, construct and test reusable objects, and making the codebase better.


Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Designs and develops rich and robust user interfaces utilizing C#.Net, Java, HTML, JavaScript and other programming languages
  • Designs and develops back-end systems and middleware applications, such as relational databases and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Proactively monitors coding activities and processes for test utilities and test automation efforts, drives improvements as needed
  • Works closely with development architects and participates in design sessions to ensure solutions are determined in advance of major changes or implementations of new technologies
  • Sets roadmaps, goals, and deliverables for test automation frameworks and utilities across the enterprise
  • Designs/Codes database components, stored procedures or data services to support test data repositories
  • Codes custom utilities, harnesses, or libraries to support testing operations and frameworks

  • Develop and deploy integrations between tools to support DevOps tool stack
  • Performs proof-of-concepts for new tools or technologies as appropriate or needed
  • Drives efficiencies in the testing process by ensuring technical solutions are practical, streamlined and tuned
  • Leads estimation process and status reporting for complex technical projects
  • Performs code reviews and test automation assessments to ensure test coverage and increase efficiencies.
  • Determines branching/merging strategies and other source code management practices as it relates to test automation scripts and utilities
  • Mentors staff and provides training and education as needed
  • Continuously review industry best practices and new tools and/or techniques for test automation.

Required Qualifications

  • ​​​​​​Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years of application development experience
  • 3 years of JAVA programming experience
  • 3 years of SQL Database Development
  • 3 years of experience defining user requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Java, XML, HTML, or similar
    • Web Services, such as REST/SOAP, JSON/WSDL/XML
    • Eclipse or similar IDE
    • Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)
    • Oracle – PL/SQL, DB2 SQL
    • Object Oriented Analysis, Design Patterns, and Frameworks
  • Experience with DevOps Toolchain methodologies, including Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)


Preferred qualifications

  • 5+ years of JAVA Programming experience
  • 5+ years of SQL Database Development
  • Understanding of TFS record Layouts
  • 5+ years of application support experience
  • Airline Industry experience
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups
  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently
