Professor, English (3 positions) - Generation Park

Situated on the city's northeast side, the San Jacinto College Generation Park Campus will open in fall 2020 with a focus on academic transfer courses and programs. Through partnerships with local industry - including maritime, logistics, and health care - there are opportunities for program and training expansion at the campus in the future. San Jacinto College is an Aspen Institute top 10 community college in the nation, serving more than 30,000 credit students each semester in more than 200 certificates and degrees.

  • Maintain an approved schedule of a minimum of 35 hours per week that includes classroom contact hours, student conference hours, professional development, and College service.

  • Provide classroom instruction for five (5) English sections per week.

  • Make a valuable contribution to the College in the following areas.

  • Teach state-mandated Student Learning Outcomes for each assigned course to maximize student understanding and success.
  • \r\n
  • Teach state-mandated General Education Outcomes and any college-mandated outcomes.

  • Willing to teach at various times, (day, evening, and weekend), lengths of term (16- and 8-week parts of term), modalities (face-to-face and online classes), and locations to meet students' needs.
  • \r\n
  • Maintain an active and informative presence on assigned Blackboard class sites that include district course syllabus, faculty contact information, learning resources, and updated grade and attendance centers.
  • \r\n
  • Use formative and summative assessments to determine students' understanding of Student Learning Outcomes and Essential Skills (Generation Education outcomes).
  • \r\n
  • Analyze assessment and student success data to improve students' understanding of Student Learning Outcomes and Essential Skills (Generation Education outcomes).
  • \r\n
  • Evaluate students' work constructively and provide timely feedback.
  • \r\n
  • Communicate with students professionally and timely through posted student conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods.
  • \r\n
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend student-learning materials.
  • \r\n

Professional Development
\r\n
    \r\n
  • Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • \r\n
  • Plan, develop, and use effective teaching methods and materials that engage students, help students meet course objectives, and are appropriate for students with diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
  • \r\n
  • Review, evaluate, and revise program curricula and teaching methods through an evaluation process that includes self-reflection.
  • \r\n
  • Meet or exceed professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s)
  • \r\n
  • Complete trainings assigned by the College.
  • \r\n

Service
\r\n
  • Actively participate in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils, as assigned.
  • Participate in college activities for students/student organizations to support recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the College.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards
  • Participate in planning and achieving department goals.


Requirements:

  • Must have a Master's degree or higher in English or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours with an appropriate English rubric.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one (1) year of teaching experience in a college/university environment.
  • \r\n
  • Experience with a wide-variety of pedagogical methodologies and assessment strategies.
  • \r\n
