Amgen is currently seeking an Associate Scientist in our Pivotal Attribute Sciences Department in Thousand Oaks, CA.

The Associate Scientist will work in a matrix environment with a team responsible for the technical aspects of developing the analytical tools to gain understanding of key attributes for biologic manufacturing processes and products. The Associate Scientist will integrate and successfully utilize platform and prior product knowledge to advance Amgen practices and ensure success from First-In-Human (FIH) study through to marketing application.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze late stage protein pharmaceutical products with advanced analytical methods including capillary electrophoresis, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques to support product and process characterization
  • Contribute to development, optimization and troubleshooting of analytical methods; participate in qualification, transfer and validation experiments with a focus on separation-based purity methods
  • Other duties include data analyses, maintenance of electronic notebook records of experimental data, participation in authoring of technical protocols and reports, and presentation of results in internal meetings


Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 2 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biochemistry or Biophysics
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial analytical laboratories supporting characterization of protein therapeutics
  • Advanced technical expertise in analytical methodologies used to characterize protein therapeutics including capillary electrophoresis (CE), Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), Ion Exchange Chromatography (IEX), Reversed-Phased (RP) and Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)
  • Experience with CE and Liquid Chromatography (LC) instruments handling and troubleshooting
  • Experience in mass spectrometry based-methods
  • Working knowledge of data processing and analysis tools in Excel and other statistical software
  • Hands on experience with method qualifications and transfers
  • Ability to work in a matrix team environment and collaborate effectively
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and electronic lab notebook (ELN)
