What you'll do

This opportunity is for an individual to join the Cargo Technology team as a principal application architect. We’re looking for a technical leader to collaborate with business leaders on developing an innovative technology strategy that watches for trends & disruptors in the air cargo and adjacent industries and collaborate with third party system providers and lead technical team members to execute on this vision.

Specifically, you'll do the following:

· Deliver and maintain artifacts and work products in support of the architecture review, software development and steady state operations

· Communicate a clear technical roadmap on the optimal application of technology to products and services to various stakeholders and knows when to balance technical solutions with business needs

· Deliver architectural solutions that incorporate industry and company technology standards

· Actively participate in requirements analysis, proofs of concepts, RFI & RFP processes and solution delivery

· Anticipate and act upon issues that arise, provides alternative approaches, optimal solution and continuously improving performance of applications

· Develop prototypes and concepts for new technologies and ideas with the delivery team and with guidance from the lead architect

· Create and promote patterns/techniques to foster DevOps adoption

· Evaluate and creates new tools and techniques to facilitate effective development practices

· Examine emerging technologies/technology practices and incorporates into architectural solution, when appropriate staying on top of industry trends

· Mentor and coach junior technical team members, driving for best practices across Cargo and American technology through the adoption of guilds

All you'll need for success

Required Minimum

· Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology , Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training

· 5 years of application systems development experience

· 5 years of architectural and design experience

· Hands-on experience in systems development in a variety of computing architectures and environments

· Hands-on experience with cloud deployment patterns, micro-services architecture, real time analytics and big data

· Proficient in Agile and SDLC methodologies

· Significant experience in requirements analysis and use case development, with a thorough understanding of software development life cycles, development and technology tools, testing methodologies and requirements gathering

· Experience with the operations characteristics of large scale and highly available computer systems deployed in a variety of software and hardware environments

· Knowledge of systems integration practices and understanding of Service Oriented Architecture principles and practices

· Proven ability to build strong and sustainable relationships with stakeholders

· Ability to adapt to unexpected events, new facts and rapidly changing circumstances

· Ability to thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment and leverage best practices




· 5+ years of experience in large scaled application systems design and development

· 3+ years of technical or team leadership experience

· Airline/air cargo industry experience

· Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups

· Ability to influence through interpersonal skills, collaboration and negotiation skills

· Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently

· Demonstrated SDLC experience in large scale, revenue-base, internet focused applications
