Police Officer - Several Positions - District Office

Responsibilities:

  • In an effort to deter and d e tect crim e or v iolation of College regulation s, po s ition w ill perform a variety of polic e duties such as: patrol s assigned areas / parkin g lot s, and outlying College prop e rtie s and building s to ensure their sec urit y .
  • R eg ul a te s pedestrian and ve hicular tr affic; in ves tigat es traffic accidents and files preliminar y accident report s; c hecks all automobiles on College propert y for improper parkin g, overtime parking and di s pl ay of Co lle ge registrati o n decals; issue s ticket s for vehicular vio lation s .
  • Assists emerge nc y a mbulance serv i ce and provides fir s t-aid treatment to members of the Co lleg e communit y and t o v i s i tors; prov id es e m e r ge nc y esco rt serv i ce t o th e Co ll ege community and t o vis it o r s w h e r e n ecessary.
  • Ob se r ves, detects and r e port s any unauthori zed si tu a tion s, which m ay le a d to ille ga l or prohibited ac tion s o n campus , w hi c h could compromise the safety of the Co ll ege community.
  • Maintain s quality standa rd s , b y s tud y and research , in order to k eep abr eas t of advanced techniques a nd idea s designed to impro ve police per forma nc e .
  • Maint ains public co nfid e nc e and s upp ort by e mph as i z in g public relations through providin g inform at i o n about the Co lle ge r e l a t ed m a tt ers t o stude nt s , s taff , faculty , a nd the ge n era l public.
  • Provides secur it y for s pecial events; provides safe t y escor t s .
  • Prepares cr iminal cases a nd presents t est imon y in court o r other h ear in gs concerning traffic v iolation s, criminal offenses, and d i sc iplinary matters .
  • C ondu cts var i o u s cr im e prevention pro grams , as dir ected, to prom ote public aware n ess of ri s k pre ventio n s trate gies .
  • May be ass i g ned FTO duti es to provid e field training to peer officers and may ass um e Officer In Charge (OIC) r es p o n s ibiliti es .

Essential Functions:

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring Department.
  • Patrols campus to enforce laws and parking regulations.
  • Assists with emergency service and provides first aid treatment.
  • Provides security for special events, and information to the campus community and general public.
  • Conducts parking enforcement; write parking tickets, provide directions to park in designated areas.
  • Conducts crime prevention programs and surveys for students, faculty and staff.
  • Works closely with college administrators to reduce and mitigate conflicts.
  • Conducts preliminary criminal investigations, accident/injury investigations and submit reports.
  • Prepares criminal cases and presents testimony in court.
  • Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, working conditions, and physical abilities required.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may be required to sit, stand, drive, walk, run, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, push, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, jump over, pull, carry, reach above head, lift, lower, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasp, hold, and to climb and balance.
  • Must exhibit and maintain ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening; to remain awake and alert and visually observable at all times, and exercise full use of arms, hands, and legs.
  • The incumbent may be required to lift more than 100 pounds.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be willing to work day , evening, or nights on any one of three shifts (7am-3pm/3pm-11 pm/11 pm-7am), weekends, holidays, overtime, and special events with varying days off.
  • Nature of police work involves a high degree of risk and exposure to various hazards to include criminal offenses, emergency response, traffic stops, and a diversity of calls for service. Exposure to outside weather conditions.


Requirements :
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have completed the TCOLE Peace Officer Licensing exam with a minimum score of 70 percent and obtain a valid TCOLE certification by the close of the posting.
  • Must be 21 years of age, and a U.S. citizen.
  • Two (2) years police experience. In lieu of experience, must meet one of the following two requirements: Twelve (12) earned hours of college credit from an accredited institution (exclusive of Police Office Academy hours); or honorable d ischarge from the military with a TCOLE certification.
  • Copies of the following must be attached to your application for it to be considered: Texas Driver's License, a copy of basic TCOLE certificate, or license, or the acknowledgement from TCOLE stating you passed the Basic Peace Officer Exam, High school diploma or GED certificate, If applicable, must provide a copy of college transcript and military DD form 214.
  • As a condition of employment, this position requires the successful completion ofa background check upon hire.

Licensure:
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas driver's license within first thirty (30) days of employment.
