Chase Consumer & Community Banking (CCB) serves consumers and small businesses with a broad range of financial services, including personal banking, small business banking and lending, mortgages, credit cards, payments, auto finance and investment advice. Consumer & Community Banking Risk Management partners with each CCB sub-line of business to identify, assess, prioritize and remediate risk. Types of risk that occur in consumer businesses include fraud, reputation, operational, credit, market and regulatory, among others.


The CCB Consumer Credit Emerging Risk - Associate will be accountable for researching credit across CCB portfolios to support the Chief Risk Officer and other senior leaders with a proactive viewpoint on consumer credit trends and emerging risks. The candidate will assist in aggregating points of view produced within line of business product teams and will create compelling views of consumer and wholesale credit across CCB. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Data Analysis:
    • Conducting & assisting analysis with assessments of impact to consumer performance, strategy, and other operational or financial areas.
  • Creative Application:
    • Contributing creatively to research topics sourced from the media, investor questions, and general industry trends. 
    • Evaluating how changes in the macroeconomic environment (including competitor trends) could impact the performance of credit portfolios.
    • Leveraging the output of internal teams that can complement existing credit views such as internal cross product Chase data or JPM Institute for market implied views of credit.
  • Researching Trends:
    • Monitoring different mechanisms of detecting emerging risks including but not limited to delinquency, loss and roll rate trends, forecast misses and breakages in correlations. 
    • Partner with quantitative teams and the various lines of business to develop leading indicators of the credit cycle and to pick up on trends that could have a broader impact across credit portfolios.
    • Creating Outside-In views of consumer credit including partnerships with Credit Bureaus for off us Credit information and Econometric firms such as Moody’s.
  • Communication:
    • Participate in forums to promote the dialogue around credit trends within the risk community at both the analyst and executive levels.
    • Document findings into compelling reports for senior management risk dialogue and escalation.

Required Skills

  • Prior exposure to consumer credit products or strategy in one or more consumer or small business credit portfolios
  • Ability to interface across multiple strategy teams to collaborate on research topics. 
  • Ability to think creatively and display intellectual curiosity for exploration of new views and ways of evaluating the health of credit products. 
  • Possess data and analytic skills including the ability to pull data using SAS or SQL, manipulate big data into manageable data sets, and utilize analytic skills to identify and explain data trends.
  • The ability to conduct risk analyses and provide business insights of consumer credit quality and behavior trends and portfolio performance.
  • Must have an orientation towards creating views and uncovering risks that drive action for CCB and JPMC, i.e., the ability to focus on material measures of success for CCB Risk.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written/presentation.
  • Ability to continually manage an auditable control framework for the research completed by the team.

Desired Skills

  • Econometric experience (e.g., competence in understanding key macro drivers of credit risk, customer behavior and lending strategy)
  • Quantitative experience (e.g., partnering with modeling or deep analytic teams to drive practical results and points of view)
  • Experience with Hadoop, Hive for big data analysis
  • Development & use experience with Tableau and data visualization
