Wholesale Payments – Data Product Specialist, Analyst/Associate

Job Description

The Wholesale Payments and Merchant Services Analytics team is a group of agile, strategic thinkers responsible for defining and executing the multi-year global analytics strategy and roadmap for JPMC.  New technologies, analytics and business models are emerging with the potential to radically transform financial services. You will be at the leading edge inside the company driving change.  As part of the Cost of Payments group, you will help develop the strategies to optimize the payment performance of global merchants as well as drive payments innovation through analytics-based insights, creating products with an engaging user experience. We are building the future, whole-enterprise analytic framework for leveraging cross-functional and cross line of business data assets (across Chase, Treasury Services, Digital, Commercial Banking) to deliver industry transforming results.

How you will help

The Data Product Specialist is an expert in building business expertise, getting hands-on in prototyping solutions, crafting and monitoring data quality tools, and driving technical resiliency to create insightful products for J.P. Morgan and its clients.  The objectives for this role:

1.     Subject matter expert – Understands how products are created and published and can help upskill peers in best practices for product management and quality

2.    Innovator – Able to help develop a new framework for managing the full product life cycle from development to actionable insight

3.    Organizational navigator – Able to find the right people from across the bank to solve problems. Having a persistent drive to get things done and cultivate lasting relationships across groups

4.    User experience expert – Helps the team understand how users interact with the tools and content to drive improvements and new insights

Your responsibilities will include: 

·         Develop team-wide standards for managing automation (Ctrl-M) processes

·         Manage product functionality in an evolving big-data environment, including monitoring the impact of background changes on Ctrl-M jobs

·         Build quality control metrics and visualizations to monitor the health status of source tables and product tables before and after updates

·         Provide daily oversight of product operation and take immediate action to correct problems

·         Coordinate across the team to ensure data environment changes (schema names, table access) are integrated into code and automation

·         Manage Tableau updates and maintenance (e.g. server changes) and develop skills surrounding design modifications and improvements

·         Create plan to harden data quality practices and build resiliency, and find creative ways to track audit compliance

·         Use strategic thinking and planning to drive innovation

·         Develop deep subject matter expertise in the payments space, becoming a go-to expert who can provide user-support to troubleshoot product functionality, address access issues and handle FAQs

Who you are

Motivated, creative, analytical and detail-oriented. You love data, and are excited to work with users to unveil insights that impact business decisions. Specifically:

  • Data expertise – You are experienced in working with big data platforms, preferably Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Hortonworks and Impala.  You have great SQL skills and experience with Hive/Yarn, Spark, python, Tableau.  A background in Control-M jobs is highly preferred.

·         Cognitive / communications skill – Articulate communicator and proactive problem-solver, takes ownership and has the grit to follow through. Ability to root out issues and drive to clear decisions.


·         Mindset – Focus on being part of a team building something of significance. Willing to roll up sleeves and do whatever it takes. ·         Experience –BA/BS in a quantitative field (e.g. computer science or engineering, math, data science) or related work experience.



Your development

Data Product Specialists will follow a personalized development plan to support your growth on the team. During one to two years as a foundation-building generalist who contributes to various projects, you will develop data science and visualization skills and subject matter expertise in global financial payments.  Consistent with your skills and interests, you will transition toward the data science analyst role, creating the original insights and tools that deliver industry-leading performance.
