POSITION SUMMARY

The Perioperative Navigator ensures the effective and efficient operation of the Perioperative programs, both clinically and administratively. This position will focus on the long-term goals of Perioperative Services and associated programs. This position works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary care team and acts as a liaison between the physicians, nurses, ancillary personnel, case manager and the hospital.

The Navigator will act as an advocate for patients and families going through the Perioperative Process to help them navigate the health care system. The Navigator will oversee education to patient/family throughout their perioperative course. This position also collaborates with clinical educators and clinical managers in identifying, developing, and implementing educational activities for nursing personnel caring for the perioperative patient. The position will be responsible for oversight of patient/family pre-op classes as well as outreach seminars.

This Perioperative Navigator will be responsible for pre- and post- operative communication to surgical patients to ensure transition of care in an effort to reduce post- operative complications and readmissions.

The Perioperative Navigator will be responsible for data analysis and identifying areas of opportunity for improvement to ensure safe, quality patient care. This position supports the organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation. In addition, this position supports growth of the organization by participating in community outreach activities and new program development and implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required. BSN required.Master's degree preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of NJ. BLS required.

EXPERIENCE: 5 years clinical experience required in Perioperative Services. 2 years leadership experience preferred. Membership and active participation in professional organizations such as National Association of Orthopedic Nurses, AORN etc.. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires frequent walking and standing with occasional bending and stooping.

This position reports to the Clinical Director of Musculoskeletal Services and Center for Perioperative Medicine in surgical services.
