Legal Organization

Legal is responsible for the provision of legal services to J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.  The group consists of approximately 2,000 employees globally and has an internal operating expense budget of approx. $600M.  Legal is under Corporate Sector being organized by Line of Business teams that conform to the Firm's main lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure provides the means for Legal to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the business lines, and for the business lines to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to Legal in a timely manner.


Position Summary

Legal Finance & Business Management is seeking a high performing ED Business Manager (BM) to support the CIB Legal organization directly supporting the CIB General Counsel.  The BM partners with Legal in providing support on team governance, priorities setting, financial budget & forecast, controls, and overall direction of the group. The role interacts extensively with the senior leads across Legal, Corporate Finance, and other corporate support groups.  The role requires advanced knowledge on business metrics, data management, headcount forecasting, and financial analysis support.

This position will report directly to the Legal CFO while providing direct support to the CIB General Counsel.  The candidate should have a proven track record on leading cross-functional teams, effectively communicating and interacting with senior management and thinking creatively to solve problems.  The ideal candidate will have a balanced experience on finance skills while being able to drive key priorities partnering and collaborating with the Legal Department and other peer functions.


This position is based in New York, NY.

Key Responsibilities
  • Driving overall strategic agendas and prioritization process across the CIB Legal
  • Responsible for CIB Legal Department’s global budget planning and ongoing expense management
  • Advise Finance & Business Management on forecasting, headcount monitoring and outside counsel spend
  • Expense management on internal and external spend including tracking headcount and financials and developing reports for senior management
  • Leading and developing materials for town halls, off-sites, and weekly management meetings
  • Provide the CIB General Counsel and the Legal CFO with management reporting, focusing on the overall business performance against objectives; proactively highlight issues and risks to the objectives, derive solutions and drive remedies to completion
  • Performance Management and Annual Planning – participate in strategic and operational planning; assemble annual plan including goals and related success measures; provide color for resource requirements and associated expenses
  • Coordination for administrative functions within the organization
  • Special Projects - participate in initiatives as assigned by senior management team including presentations, ad-hoc analysis


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with proofed experience on finance, financial reporting and/or accounting
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in a business management, planning and analysis or product control roles. Prior experience working with the Legal Department is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of personal initiative with high sense of urgency
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues, desire to learn quickly, and be flexible
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel (with the ability to work with large amounts of data) and PowerPoint skills is essential
  • Highly organized, detail oriented
  • Thoughtful analytical skills; able to develop, clearly present and draw conclusions
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with core accounting and MIS reporting architecture
