As a Pathways Direct Hire, you will be placed in a role based on professional experience and business priorities, focused on one of a few areas including: Asset & Wealth Management, Consumer & Community Banking, Commercial Banking, and Corporate & Investment Banking. 


To ensure continuous development throughout the program, each candidate will receive mentorship, guidance, and support from your individual manager, program manager, veteran sponsor and many other influential business partners across the firm.


In addition to your business role responsibilities, as a Pathways member you will participate in training programs, learning sessions, individual mentoring relationships, and networking events. You will interact with JP Morgan Chase & Co. senior management and partner with a military veteran sponsor who will assist you with the transition from military life into our organization. You can also become a member of our Veteran’s Business Resource Group, an employee group that supports veteran causes. And of course, you will have the strong support network of your fellow military veteran colleagues. The cohort format of Pathways will provide you with a network of peers to share experiences and a sense of community amongst fellow veterans as you contribute to a business area aligned to your skillset.



As a member of our Software Engineering Group we look first and foremost for people who are passionate around solving business problems through innovation & engineering practices. You will be required to apply your depth of knowledge and expertise to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, as well as partner continuously with your many stakeholders on a daily basis to stay focused on common goals. Responsible for the operations of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers and networks. Infrastructure Engineers are responsible for the evaluation, selection, implementation, integration, maintenance, upgrade, documentation, troubleshooting and design of all infrastructure. Primary duty involves design work, specifically designing a tailored solution in order to meet a specific client request. Reviews Business Requirements, Functional Specifications and Test Cases to understand the functional and technical performance requirements in order to analyze the performance of the application and verify those requirements are successfully met. Collects and analyzes monitoring data in test and production to support root cause analysis. Coordinates with project leadership to ensure that capacity management activities and resources are integrated into overall project plan and schedule. Supports and defines performance test scripts, documents defects and identifies solutions where the actual results do not successfully meet expected results. Must have a high degree of technical expertise/professional mastery to recommend process improvements. Is often consulted by peers and seen as the informal leader on tactical problems.

U.S. Military Veteran Applicant Qualifications

Location: Chicago, IL.


  • Enlisted/Junior Officer background and 4+ years of experience
    BA/BS required

  • 0-5 years of separation from military service

  • Demonstrated learning agility

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Forward thinking and able to work through complex and unpredictable circumstances

  • Ability to adapt to change and achieve positive business outcomes

  • Ability to participate in scheduled Induction training in New York from October 23-25

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

  • Software Development Experience

  • Programming experience in an OO language

  • Relational database software development experience 

  • Full Stack software engineer with experience in an OO language (C# or Java), with high performance applications

  • Deliver projects that adhere to continuous delivery practices with:

  • Automated unit testing

  • Integration testing

  • Performance testing

  • Code/Peer Reviews

  • Code quality

  • Experience working in an Agile framework: SCRUM and Kanban

  • Expectation is for hands on design and coding

  • Experience with relational database such as SQL Server / Oracle

  • Ability and Willingness to work across both Java and Microsoft based solutions

  • Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals

  • Understand software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance and software improvement

  • Must be comfortable and eager to perform all tasks in order to meet goals (refinement, creating stories, testing/automation, pairing, TDD, refactoring, communicating directly with PO, operations or client, supporting production implementations, etc.)

  • Experience using Tomcat

  • Spring 

  • XML

  • Cloud, Kubernetes

  • MySQL, NoSQL
