The Data Architect Manager within the Chase Merchants Services Domain is responsible for driving critical cross-functional projects in support of designing, building, and implementing customer-centric data assets for use across the firm. The candidate must exhibit a thorough understanding of data structures, data manipulation, metadata, data security, and data quality management. In addition, the candidate must have a solid understanding of Chase Consumer Banking and JP Morgan businesses, functions, systems, data environments, and processes that are necessary for the production and utilization of customer data.

 

The individual in the CCB Data Management Manager role will be responsible for several projects to ensure adherence with Firm wide and Regulatory data management policies and standards.  The person will work closely with the CCB Data Governance and Controls lead and team members to deliver key projects aligned to a strategy to mitigate data risk, including risks associated with data quality, data souring, data consumption, and data use/access.  This individual will manage all aspects of assigned projects in support of the CCB data management agenda and execute against established goals, in partnership with members from CCB Data Management, Firm wide data management office, CCB sub-lines of business, and the CCB Technology organization. This position plays an important role in the firm’s agenda to control its data risk while simultaneously providing the business the ability to utilize data in an agile manner to meet business objectives.

 

This role requires risk and controls experience and data management knowledge in one or more data risk areas, as well as a hands-on experience delivering critical business initiatives and regulatory mandates as they relate to data. The individual filling this position will need to be able to partner and work across multiple cross-functional areas, including Technology, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Legal, sub-line of business Operations, and the Firm wide data management office.  The person will need to develop an understanding of key business / Firm wide initiatives and to support the integration of data management activities accordingly, such as Basel Risk Data Aggregation and Reporting, CCAR, and Basel Capital.

 

Other responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Firm wide data governance policy; collecting/reviewing evidence to meet policy statement requirements, and executing monitoring routines to ensure sustainable compliance
  • Recommending governance oversight processes; documenting roles & responsibilities, procedures & job aides
  • Reviewing data controls and recommending enhancements to mitigate data risk and solve control gaps
  • Leading Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) testing cycle execution, maintenance and sustainability within the Data Management organization; ensuring closure of issues/action plans
  • Assisting with root-cause analysis of any control / operational issues with follow up of preventive actions & process changes
  • Working with the Business and/or Technology Controls Groups in coordinating oversight of controls management and documenting key control points within the Data Management organization
  • Supporting the operating model to publish a data risk scorecard to effectively measure data risk
  • Identifies and documents best practices, and drives implementation
  • Independently develops value-adding business solutions
  • Prepares standard and ad hoc management reports, metrics, scorecards and presentations 

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in the fields of engineering, computer science, MIS, software engineering and/or a related work discipline
  • 10+ years of experience as a lead or key participant on information management and/or  data governance frameworks or related efforts
  • Minimum five years of Applications or Information Architect/Engineering experience – technology implementation experience and certifications a plus.
  • Experience with Operations Controls, Technology Controls, Risk, or Audit
  • Operational business knowledge of processes, data and technology platforms
  • Experience with data management concepts and associated risk
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong skills in project management methodologies and tools – Agile Training and certification a plus.
  • Advanced analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proven experience with data infrastructure initiatives, best practices and key components
  • In-depth knowledge of business and wholesale banking data
  • Understanding of Big Dated-related technologies & their applications (On Premise and AWS Cloud offerings)
  • Familiarity with various data modeling techniques and tools with knowledge of the SQL language
  • Must have ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines and be comfortable managing large projects
  • Good understanding of different file and message formats (ASCII, EBCDIC, JSON, XML, AVRO, etc.)

 

Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of Encryption & Tokenization
  • Knowledge of Security of Data at Rest and Data in Transport
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure and protocols
  • Knowledge of virtual infrastructures, cloud security
  • Knowledge of SDLC and direct involvement in implementing application governance controls
  • 5+ years working with big data technologies
  • 10 years’ experience with Business Intelligence and data wrangling tools
  • Coding skills to profile, wrangle, and prepare data from diverse sources to support analytical efforts
  • Knowledge of the business lending, card and deposit lifecycle, including origination, sale/servicing, default management/loss mitigation and fraud
  • Ability to Create conceptual & logical models to describe a particular domain of data and use these models to inform the physical design of data-related projects
