Amgen's Research and Development (R&D) Business Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools and processes. The team delivers on key initiatives and provides tactical support to ensure R&D scientists and staff receive the goods and services they require, strong analytic support for spend and management of external partners through robust supplier oversight and governance programs. In this new role, will be the R&D liaison to align with corporate partners (Source to Pay, Healthcare Compliance and other business partners) to help exceed productivity and operational goals. As an experienced manager, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in end-to-end Source to Pay processes including complex compliance requirements (Healthcare, GxP, SOX) and an understanding of the drug development processes. The manager will establish this new role at our Tampa, FL site to deliver on R&D Business Operations priorities. Will focus on optimizing, improving and aligning existing R&D and corporate business processes and tools that enables a R&D fit-for-purpose solution.

The Manager must be a strong people leader with the outstanding ability to communicate and navigate in a matrixed environment, build and maintain strong relationships and be a creative problem solver who can deliver significant results with a get it done approach. Key responsibilities include:
  • Managing, documenting and updating R&D end to end source-to-pay business processes and designing, maintaining and updating toolkits to train across R&D.
  • Mapping processes with corporate and functional partners and suppliers to deliver efficient practices and toolkits to drive value for R&D while maintaining alignment with corporate and compliance requirements.
  • Developing strong reciprocal relationships with internal partners, including but not limited to, Global Strategic Sourcing, Legal, External Workforce Center, Healthcare Compliance and Finance.
  • Being a compliance champion - ensuring corporate, R&D and functional policies, procedures and SOPs as they relate to source-to-pay business processes are followed by R&D staff; ensuring that R&D policies, procedures and SOPs are in alignment with corporate requirements for source-to-pay and compliance payments (physicians, non-profit/profit organizations, etc).
  • Using Agile and Lean methodologies to participate in or contribute to productivity initiatives that benefit R&D and optimize business processes.


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of biotech/pharma-related business operations/supplier management experience

Preferred Requirements
  • Degree in biology, life sciences, health, medical or clinical sciences along with additional education in finance or business.
  • Familiarity with research and clinical development in biopharmaceutical industry as well as medical and scientific terminology.
  • Process modeling experience
  • Finance and budget management experience including cost analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with multiple sourcing models (Fee-for-service, dedicated resource, functional service provider).
  • Proven ability in navigating a matrixed organization and developing collaborative internal and external relationships.
  • Experience as an "integrator" across multiple organizations, teams and processes with proven ability to advance strategic imperatives.
  • Experience with analytics software (Microsoft Access, SPSS, Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet), document management applications, portfolio planning tools, supply chain and financial systems (Planisware, Veeva, SAP, Ariba).
  • Experience leading and working with virtual teams and using collaborative tools and platforms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and project management skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple high priority projects and minimal supervision.
  • Being able to adapt work and communication styles to meet organization needs.
