We Are:

Fermilab is America's premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.

Fermilab's Core Computing Division is seeking a Mac Desktop Engineer. As a member of the Desktop Engineering team, the Mac Desktop Engineer will assist in the design, implementation, and support of the Mac desktop, laptop, and mobile environment. In addition, the Mac Desktop Engineer will provide Tier 3 support to the Desktop Support team and participate in multiple cross-functional projects.

Relocation is not available for this position.

We Are Looking For:
  • High School Diploma with 5-7 years' experience or Associate's degree in Computer Science or related fields, preferred.
  • 4+ years' experience in supporting Mac's in the enterprise or education environment, required.
  • Strong scripting experience, required.
  • Experience working in a support environment, interfacing with customers, required.
  • Experience with JamF's Casper central management suite, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system, a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSX and third party software troubleshooting (Tier 3) and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with standard hardware for the desktop environment and custom hardware in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to design and implement ongoing enterprise-wide Mac environment.
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with current Apple hardware and software products, including OSX and IOS; certification preferred.
  • Ability to understand Enterprise level centralized management and anti-virus in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to understand application package creation and deployment in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to understand Enterprise App store volume licensing in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to understand basic desktop/laptop automated deployment process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Knowledge of ITIL Best Practices, preferred.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation..
