The JPMorgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams, businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.


The Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) Regulatory, Operations & Controls Legal Team (ROC) is responsible for providing legal services to CCB Operations, including collections and recovery, collections litigation, bankruptcy, sworn document processes, tax reporting, escalated customer complaints and third party oversight. The team is also responsible for providing regulatory advice to all CCB businesses and control partners on key consumer protection statutes such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Unfair/Deceptive Acts and Practices. In addition, the team monitors state and federal law and regulatory developments and leads CCB’s participation in the firm wide Office of Legal Obligations and Legal Regulatory Change Management processes. The CCB ROC team also provides legal support to CCB’s Audit, Compliance, Risk and Controls functions and various firm wide regulatory initiatives, such as the Firm wide Bankruptcy Program, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and the Remediation Center of Excellence.


The Cross-Line-Of-Business Collection Advisory Legal Group, a division within ROC, is seeking an attorney to support various debt collection-related matters across the CCB Lines of business.  This position is a cross-line-of business AVP role supporting debt collection operations, strategies and projects in CCB including Auto, Card, Consumer Deposit and other product lines.  


The position will be located in Plano, TX.

The responsibilities of the position include:
  • Providing legal support to consumer debt operations
  • Partner with legal and business teams to implement new legislative and regulatory requirements and provide support for additional business programs
  • Analyze and resolve escalated issues in a broad variety of matters involving debt collections
  • Review business documentation (including policies, procedures, correspondence, customer communications, contracts) to provide quality control in the debt collection process and ensure business processes and procedures comply with legal requirements, regulatory guidance and internal policies
  • Partner with business and corporate function groups (e.g., Compliance, Risk, Controls and Audit) to provide in-depth analyses of changes in law and assist in evaluations of possible impacts to business processes or procedures
  • Provide support to special projects and cross-line-of-business issues involving debt collection legal requirements

Required Skills:
  • JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment
  • 3-5 years experience practicing post JD or educational equivalent; consumer financial services experience preferred
  • Will consider candidates with at least 5+ years of post JD practicing experience for a VP title.   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player who can collaborate within the legal department and across business groups
  • Analytical thinker who is independent/self-starter
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong sense of honesty and ethics  and dedication to protecting the reputation of JPMC
  • Strong legal research skills on a variety of databases including Westlaw and/or Lexis
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to drive complex projects across multiple lines of business
  • Ability and willingness to engage with advise senior business and legal stakeholders
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior in-house or litigation experience involving consumer finance or debt collection issues
  • Working knowledge of consumer finance laws impacting debt collections including FDCPA, TCPA, SCRA, UDAAP and FCRA
  • Prior regulatory or compliance experience
  • Interest in consumer banking/lending
  • Experience handling a wide range of litigation and/or probate actions
