Commercial Banking, one of the JPMorgan Chase & Co. businesses, delivers extensive industry knowledge, local expertise and dedicated service to more than 24,000 clients, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions, and not-for-profit organizations with annual revenue generally ranging from $20 million to $2 billion and nearly 35,000 real estate investors/owners. Commercial Banking offers a comprehensive set of financial products and services including credit, equipment finance, real estate finance, and treasury services, and provides clients with access to the investment banking services of J.P. Morgan. 

 

The Commercial Banking Shared Services Legal team is seeking a paralegal with experience in commercial or real estate lending transactions or financial services regulations. The position will be based in Plano, Texas or Chicago, Illinois.

 

The Shared Services Legal team provides strategic and transactional legal advice on firmwide initiatives, business objectives, and the bank’s customer relationships. The paralegal will work directly with and be supervised by Shared Services lawyers. The position will primarily support Commercial Banking’s legal and regulatory change management framework and loan operations matters. The environment is fast-paced, often requiring that issues be addressed quickly to ensure the firm remains in compliance with laws and regulations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Continuing to develop and maintain a sustainable strategy for legal review of obligations and regulatory change management
  • Actively participating in review of a firmwide library of legal obligations, including organizing and categorizing of obligations
  • Researching laws, rules, and regulations
  • Supporting the Commercial Banking legal and regulatory change management process
  • Tracking internal deadlines and status reports to maintain project schedules
  • Assisting loan operations staff with projects and day to day requests related to a variety of loan servicing functions
  • Participating in other projects as needed

  • 4-year undergraduate degree (preferred but not required) with at least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably with a medium to large law firm or financial institution. Candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered for this role at a lower paralegal level.
  • Experience with commercial or real estate lending transactions is preferred
  • Knowledge of financial services laws and regulations is a plus
  • Excellent research, writing and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to listen and drive results in a team setting
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) and ability to quickly and easily learn new programs
  • Experience with on-line research tools (Westlaw, Lexis or similar tools)
  • Ability to exercise mature and professional judgment and attitude, and adhere to policy guidelines
  • The ability to prioritize work and manage a large number of issues at one time
  • Ability to work independently and self-starter
  • Effective and efficient problem solver; strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
