JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) is a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2.6 trillion and operations worldwide. The firm is a leader in investment banking, financial services for consumers and small business, commercial banking, financial transaction processing, and asset management. A component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, JPMorgan Chase & Co. serves millions of consumers in the United States and many of the world's most prominent corporate, institutional and government clients under its J.P. Morgan and Chase brands. Information about JPMorgan Chase & Co. is available at http://www.jpmorganchase.com/.

The JPMorgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams, businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.

With client assets under supervision of $3 trillion and assets under management of $2.2 trillion, J.P. Morgan Asset and Wealth Management (AWM) is one of the largest asset and wealth managers in the world.  AWM serves four distinct client groups globally through three businesses:  institutional and retail clients through Asset Management (AM), and high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients through Wealth Management (WM), which includes the Private Bank and J.P. Morgan Securities.  AWM offers global investment management in equities, fixed income, real estate, hedge funds, private equity and liquidity.  AWM also provides trust and estate, banking, and brokerage services to high net worth clients, and retirement services for corporations and individuals.

The Legal team supporting JPMorgan’s Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) business seeks an experienced lawyer to lead its Legal & Regulatory Change Management (LRCM) efforts.

Partnering with controls, compliance, and line of business lawyers for AWM in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia, the lawyer will help design and maintain processes for (i) monitoring and interpreting developments in the laws, rules, and regulations in countries where AWM conducts business, and (ii) assisting the business to assess the impact of such developments to AWM’s policies, procedures and processes.

This lawyer will be expected to review and synthesize legal and regulatory developments at a high level, assess whether laws or regulations impact products and services provided by AWM, and use his or her judgment to engage legal subject matter experts across the firm, as needed.

The role requires legal training and experience in financial services (advisory, transactional or financial litigation), and the ability to learn the nuances of AWM’s business.  This is a broad-based legal advisory and program management role well-suited to a lawyer who wants to grow their knowledge about financial products/services and relevant regulatory bodies.

This is a leadership role that demands independent idea generation and significant collaboration with teams outside of Legal.  The successful candidate will be a true self-starter with strong analytical skills, a talent for project management, and an eye for efficiency in legal operations.

  • JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.

  • 5+ years experience post JD in a law firm or in-house with a financial services organization.

  • Familiarity with financial products/services and related legal concepts - e.g., credit (collateral, liens, and mortgages); investment products (private equity or hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds, etc.); banking services or products; and corporate governance concepts.

  • Experience designing and managing large projects or programs end-to-end, including tracking metrics and reporting to management.

  • Demonstrated accountability for deliverables to clients and/or colleagues.

  • Detail-oriented yet able to think strategically to identify program or process improvements or efficiencies.

  • Strong legal research skills and demonstrated ability to self-educate through independent research and collaboration with colleagues.

  • Strong writing skills; ability to craft clear, organized emails and summaries.  Experience drafting client-facing communications of legal principles.

  • While not required, a lawyer with foreign language skills (Spanish, French, Mandarin, other) is preferred.

  • Faculty with basic Excel for purposes of tracking program metrics.  Willingness to develop strong PowerPoint and other technology skills for role-specific applications.

  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
