This job is a member of the Hubs & Gateways Team within the Customer Experience Division. The Lead Environmental Coordinator has primary responsibility for the daily oversight and compliance of environmental regulations at American Airlines’ facility at Los Angeles International Airport, Los Angeles, CA.

What you'll do
  • ​ Maintains expert knowledge and ensures facility’s compliance with all federal, state and local environmental regulations including but not limited to:
    • California Air Resources Board and South Coast Air Quality Management District regulations and permit requirements
    • RCRA and California large quantity hazardous waste generator regulations
    • EPA Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan implementation
    • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program
    • City of Los Angeles Industrial water permit requirements
What you'll do
  • Conducts trend analysis and prepare reports for hazardous waste, air quality, and water quality programs
  • Provides regulatory interpretations and guidance to other departments
  • Represents American Airlines during environmental agency inspections
  • Works under consultative supervision toward predetermined objectives and assignments are usually self-initiated
  • Investigates areas of non-compliance
  • Maintains invoice database; submit invoices for processing

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​​Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years environmental and regulatory experience, including audits/inspections
  • 3 years’ experience in tracking, analyzing, trending, and reporting data

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time-constraining circumstances is essential.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently exercising good judgment and decision-making skills. Must be able to effectively and confidently communicate with representatives from regulatory agencies. 
    • Must have an aptitude for utilizing technology based systems and applications to perform various environmental inspections
    • Must be available after regular business hours to answer telephone calls and/or be physically present at the facility to address urgent situations, when required.
