Position Summary


This position offers a wide range of opportunity for interacting with External Examiners, Business Management, Legal and Compliance across the Firm’s Mortgage Banking Division.


This position assists with a caseload of external examinations in adherence to protocols established for pre-exam preparation, on-site facilitation and post exam processes. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, exam scheduling, requested materials/data procurement, logistics coordination, management communication, issue identification and remediation tracking.


This position will communicate and provide regular updates to the multiple business partners regarding issues and /or matters requiring attention and will work with key Business Partners and appropriate Control Groups to ensure effective action plans are developed to remediate exam issues.


This position will also partner with management, Legal and Compliance to develop effectual written responses to final examination reports.


Business Description


Investor Controls Management (ICM) utilizes a cohesive and disciplined approach in the facilitation of pre-exam, exam, and post external exams across Home Lending.  Our scope includes federal government agencies (HUD, VA, GNMA, USDA and MHA-C), GSEs (FHLMC, FNMA) state regulators, private investors, master servicers, and mortgage insurance companies.  This team actively partners with Operations, Legal, Compliance, Technology (IT/MIS) and Controls to manage external Home Lending examinations and inquiries.  Additional responsibilities include executing established exam protocol, issues management, reporting, database administration, and document control activities to ensure exam-related information is administered in accordance with ICM guidelines.


Core Competencies

  • Working knowledge of audit, risk and operational management concepts and the ability to understand and interpret the impact of policy and procedural changes, as well as identify and convey potential problem areas.

  • Ability to review documentation and provide executive summary overviews and trending analysis for exams.

  • Strong organization, attention to detail, time management, planning skills and the ability to handle multiple components of exams.

  • Demonstrated ability to interface with various internal and external customers, clients, and stakeholders. 

  • Working knowledge of Home Lending

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to review policy and procedures within a business unit and identify potential issues.

  • Strong ability to multi-task and change assignments quickly and effectively


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review examiner’s request for information and work identify the appropriate contacts from the business, Compliance, and legal partners and coordinate with those contacts to collect information. 
  • Track delivery against deadlines and escalate any issues. 
  • Review information provided by partners for relevancy.
  • Ensure that all requested information is provided on time.
  • Manage exam logistics, servicer evaluations/reviews, and preparation of presentations. 
  • Participate in on-site presentations.
  • Prepare business partners for exam interviews.
  • Communicate and distribute audit findings to appropriate senior management for appropriate action.
  • Track all issues and ensure escalation as needed.
  • Catalog and maintain accurate records of all reviews and audits, together with appropriate Chase responses.
  • Effectively use the database to ensure it is current and accurate.
  • Conduct all aspects of the exam including pre-exam work, exemption, post-exam process, and remediation efforts.
  • Work with the business on identified items for resolution and escalate issues as they are identified.
  • Execute strategic direction of ICM and perform ad hoc duties as requested.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Associate/ Bachelor’s degree is preferable  

  • 5-7 years of operations, mortgage, audit/risk experience.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory and investor requirements in the mortgage space.

  • Analytical and organized with a systematic thought process.
