Global Reference Data Operations (GRDO) is aligned to the Chief Data Office (CDO) which is responsible for improving the quality, integrity and reliability of the firm’s critical data.   The organization’s objectives are to explain the path that critical data follows, improve data quality, reduce ambiguity and inconsistent terminology, enhance transparency, rationalize the number of replicated data assets, and improve firm wide sharing of information and best practices.  The Instrument Reference Data (IRD), a major component of GRDO with over 400 staff globally, services all areas of J.P. Morgan Chase; Corporate & Investment Bank, Asset Management, Consumer & Community Banking and Commercial Bank.   IRD provides high quality reference data to its subscribers from major external market providers such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, ICE previous called S&P, under a single operating model.  Data is sourced, validated, mastered and distributed via J.P. Morgan’s strategic Reference Data architecture and is used for trading, risk management, settlement and regulatory reporting.


Description of role, functions and activities

 Instrument Reference Data are responsible for creating, maintaining and investigating reference data across the firm’s strategic instrument reference data platform (GIM) and various legacy applications acting as guardians of that data and responding to request and queries from the users. The team interacts daily with the Global Index Research Group, a part of the JP Morgan Corporate Investment Banking Research, across its global footprint (in New York, London and Asia) to ensure that the index processes, requests and systems are operating efficiently.

 

Key Responsibilities and Skills:

 
  • Create new instruments for various Fixed Income products in Reference Data system
  • Update/modify assets based on internal client initiated changes
  • Regular maintenance of securities that require reference data updates on a daily basis from external vendor sources like Bloomberg, Reuters etc.
  • Perform research through Bloomberg and Reuters to find missing or additional information required to complete set up or maintenance while providing support from 8am to 8pm EST
  • Monitor rejects queue and clears them on a timely basis
  • Handling and monitoring issue and query mails  and escalating issues promptly to supervisor
  • A proactive approach to problem solving, taking ownership of issues and having the determination to follow things through
  • Assist in the migration of legacy datasets to a centralized data repository
  • Participate/Coordinate in special projects such as; data clean up, process improvement analysis, metrics reporting
  • Plan and prioritize projects handled by the team
  • Ensure Checklist, Metrics and EOD activities are completed and signed off
  • Ensure timely update/review of SOPs, Issue Logs and Project tracker
  • Relationship Management

                        - Communicate with internal business partners on a frequent basis

                        -  Manage business partner expectations and build a good rapport

  • Participate and present in client monthly meetings
  • Contribute to on-going developments of the instrument control process
  • Ad-hoc project work as required

  • Bachelor degree with preference in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
  •  2-4 Years of experience in a financial services sector preferred
  • Demonstrate an understanding and interest in stocks, bonds, options, and financial markets and products
  • Advanced MS Excel skills /VBA and Microsoft office a plus
  • Analytical/problem solving skills and attention to detail preferred
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the proven ability to work accurately and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate within a team environment and interact across departments
  • Demonstrate customer focus and follow-up skills
  • The role will be required to operate flexible working hours to cover early starts and/or late finishes as demanded by the business
  • Knowledge of external reference data providers like BLOOMBERG, REUTERS, etc. a plus
  • Focus on quality and controlled environment.
