The Integration or API Architect provides architectural direction and mentorship for the design and delivery of Amgen's software integration efforts as a key member of the Integration Product Team (IPT). This includes technical oversight of integration between a variety of systems to provide solutions to meet business needs. The Principal or Lead Architect is a leadership role that requires a detailed understanding of the business strategy, breadth and depth of technological solutions, and the ability to talk in business terms and understand financial impact.

As the IPT we govern, advocate, define, guide and champion Amgen's Integration Services roadmap, strategies, policies and standards with a Full-Stack Engineering vision. You will bring deep technical expertise to design, guide, review and approve integration needs of new and ongoing projects from a perspective of efficiency, security, compliance, performance, fit for purpose and alignment to the layered architectural style that promotes reusability. Enablement and education activities by providing mentorship in your technical domain is desired.

We craft and curate Integration architecture patterns and identify, review and recommend Integration standards that mature from standards definition processes. We innovate and collaborate with peers in the industry to drive innovation for the company. You can cross check your theories by presenting at industry conferences !

To realize architectural value, you will communicate goals/strategy and integration architecture direction to the global Amgen IS organization. Using critical metrics that you will help establish and refine, you will make suggestions for improvement of the state of the art of integration via an annual architecture plan/strategy update called the Capabilities and Maturity Assessment (CAMA)

To improve quality and repeatable processes you will Identify and nurture the creation of common processes and services in the DevOps stack, ensure integrations are built for HADR, performance, scalability, and lifecycle efficiency

  • To deliver on the expectations, your capabilities should include
  • Proficiency in integration patterns and standard methodologies and their application and champion adoption.
  • Ability to coordinate input from various sources, weight pros and cons, organizational priorities and risk to make the right solutioning decisions
  • Good communication, listening, analytical, planning, problem solving, and leadership skills are required.
  • Skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues are necessary for this role.
  • Problem solving skills requiring the application of technological theory, and creative skills in the development of new hypotheses for technical design and detailed interpretation of results.
  • Possesses knowledge of a wide range of applicable technology, understand the options and costs associated with different technical solutions
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines without compromising attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to keep abreast of new emerging technologies and work with other functional and enterprise architects to bring value to the enterprise.
  • Past hand on work on MuleSoft, REST, RAML, SOAP, WSDL, J2EE, .NET, AWS, GCP, Azure, DevOps, SAML, OAuth2, Message Queues, Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, IaaS, and platform as a service (PaaS)
  • Comprehensive understanding of enterprise application integration (EAI), including SOA, microservices, eventing/messaging, API, open data patterns, and middleware technologies
  • Working knowledge of MuleSoft
  • Ability to articulate and translate solutions both in business and technical terms
  • Experience with messaging infrastructure and tools


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate degree and 10 years of Information Systems

OR

High school diploma/GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
