The SRF Measurement and Research Department in the Fermilab Technical Division seeks a highly motivated Guest Engineer to lead the design of processing control of chemical vapor deposition and cavity chemical polishing. Candidates should have a demonstrated knowledge of chemistry and process development, waste management, safety assessment and data analysis of chemical processes. Successful candidates will contribute in the following areas: develop chemical process control for a newly acquired chemical vapor reaction chamber, develop safe operation procedure, monitoring and improve safe handling of flammable chemical gas inventory. The candidate may also help troubleshoot existing chemical processing equipment, initiation and implementation of new ideas to improve performance of superconducting RF cavities by novel chemical process, publishing of results and leadership of others in organizations devoted to achieving these goals or in the operation of the laboratory.

The position is for a one-year term.

  • Develop the process control of chemical reaction furnace.
  • Develop operation procedure for the chemical reaction furnace.
  • Develop safe handling and storage of chemical gas which can be flammable and corrosive.
  • Participate in the development of novel chemical process to improve SRF cavity performance.
  • Support the troubleshooting of chemical processing equipment including electropolishing system.
