Formulation and process development of therapeutic protein drugs (a.k.a. biologics) is a challenging and exciting area. Often, formulation development is centered on preserving the protein in the primary container (vial or syringe) in which it is filled during the fill/finish process. However, many promising oncology products are administered to patients through intravenous infusion via an IV-bag. An emerging area of opportunity in the oncology and formulation space relates to improving the understanding of the physical and chemical properties of IV-infusion materials and how they affect protein compatibility. The intern will have the opportunity to learn state of the art analytical techniques as well as lead in the development of new and novel measurements using cutting edge instrumentation not common to the biotechnology industry.

Theinternwillconductexperiments designed to further our scientific understanding of how drug products interact with the materials used to manufacture IV-infusion medical supplies. The results will likely benefit patients and improve our ability to predict drug product compatibility with the materials encountered during manufacturing and administration.
