Summary

The Global Category Strategic Sourcing Manager, based at Amgen's Thousand Oaks, CA global headquarters, will report into the Sales & Marketing Sr. Manager within Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS).

The Global Category Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for ~$200M spend across various Sales and Marketing categories which includes: Agencies, Print and Sales Support. The category manager will be accountable for developing and managing the overall sourcing and supplier management processes across these categories of external spend. This role serves as a key strategic partner to the Amgen's Commercial Operations and corporate Affairs Team.

Strategic Contribution:
  • Design and develop the sourcing strategy spanning across select categories within Sales & Marketing
  • Develop strong relationships with key internal stakeholders within Amgen Commercial function, Corporate Affairs and Medical teams
  • Act as a trusted business advisor providing thought leadership and consistent customer service while also delivering on qualitative and quantitative value to the bottom line through cost savings and transformation through innovation
  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) on Amgen Sourcing Policy, best practices and compliance
  • Identify, develop and deploy best practice supplier and cost management, procurement and Category management practices
  • Lead and influence stakeholder groups with sound and articulate recommendations through to supplier selection


Delivering Value for Customers:

Act as an ambassador for the GSS function:
  • Effectively drive cross-category collaboration where 'overlapping' stakeholder groups, geographic regions and / or requirements exist
  • Work with our Sourcing Excellence and Execution team to lead complex RFPs including strong commercial negotiations, leading supplier evaluations and contractual negotiations in collaboration with stakeholders and business partners (Legal, Compliance, Audit etc.)


Developing Category Strategies:
  • Deliver customer solutions via multi-year category strategies globally in alignment with multiple stakeholder's annual plans
  • Ability to bring diverse stakeholders together and facilitate to achieve a common goal and objective
  • Lead with oversight to the overall sourcing process for your category across multiple functional groups including ex-US regions
  • Customize sourcing strategy to drive value in specific functional environment, including legal & regulatory context
  • Initiate/build industry peer relationships bringing back best practice/innovation for the category


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 3 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Agency experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Agency experience
OR
Associate's degree and 10 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Agency experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Agency experience

AND
Previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology
  • Functional or Sourcing experience in one or more of the categories contemplated (Agencies Print, Sales Support, Multi-Channel)
  • Experience and knowledge to develop and implement a successful category strategy
  • Ability to analyze spend data and present insights based on the needs of the audience
  • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer's business context (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations


Excellent and disciplined project management and prioritization skills with ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Can conform to shifting priorities and have ability to drive multiple simultaneous projects
  • Proven ability to deliver complex multi-regional and/or global projects in a matrixed and global environment


Stakeholder engagement and soft skills
  • Strong oral and written communication / presentation skills
  • High-energy, self-motivated with a desire and ability to excel in a multi stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Ability to influence and shape strategy with stakeholders at all levels including Amgen senior management
  • Demonstrated success in partnering cross-functionally
