Job Summary

The Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) Senior Category Manager, based at Amgen's Thousand Oaks, CA global headquarters, will report into the US Commercial vertical lead within GSS.

The Senior Category Manager will be accountable for the global sourcing engagement with the Value and Access teams (Global and U.S.) and support an estimated $500M in annual spend, with direct ownership of ~$250M spend in Call Center and Patient Support Programs, including: Hub Call Centers, Nurse Call Centers & Field Programs, Field Reimbursement Managers, Copay Programs, Medical Information Call Centers, and Access Technology.

The Senior Manager will be accountable to understand the business needs, drive external spend insights and support business partners in meeting their productivity, risk mitigation and innovation targets. The role will include direct management of one category manager for Call Centers and working with various non-reporting category managers, including Data, Research and Consulting to help drive respective category strategies in the Value & Access (V&A) organizations.

The Senior Manager will also be responsible for coordinating V&A and category strategies globally in coordination with sourcing leads in the three Amgen regions.

Shape and Drive Business Engagement:

Develop and formalize sourcing engagement with Global V&A Leadership Team and US V&A Leadership Team

Establish quarterly / semi-annual sourcing reviews that outlines sourcing results for the organization, highlights challenges, etc.

Create deep relationships that allows sourcing to engage early in problem solutioning and provides an avenue to bring early insights to help shape business strategy

Ensure appropriate sourcing support and engagement on business priorities including global commercial initiatives

Gather customer requirements to inform global strategy

Support organization in delivery against productivity targets

Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and Management:

Develop stakeholder map and appropriate engagement plan (cadence, communication, etc.)

Collaborate with sourcing category managers to provide organizational input on requirements and needs and then driving sourcing strategy within the Value and Access Organizations

Build internal networks to communicate cross-category updates

Team Leadership - Developing category strategies:

Drive rigorous supplier analysis, market intelligence

Develop fit-for-purpose sourcing guidelines and communicate to stakeholders

Design and develop multi-year sourcing strategy for V&A programs

Engage with commercial executive leadership to drive sourcing strategy, compliance, and continued partnership

Identify, develop, and deploy best practice supplier and cost management, procurement, and category management practices

Build a pipeline of sourcing Projects as the global V&A lead

Customize sourcing strategy to drive value, including legal and regulatory context

Lead and influence stakeholder groups with sound and articulate recommendations through to supplier selection

Collaborate with Souring Excellence team and other stakeholders by leading complex RFPs and negotiations

Deliver Value for Stakeholders:

Become trusted advisor by providing thought leadership and consistent customer service while also delivering quantitative value through cost savings and transformation/innovation

Provide subject matter expertise on V&A, as well as sourcing policy and best practices

Develop strong relationships with key internal and global stakeholders, including Commercial, Corporate Affairs, Medical, Pharmacovigilance, Privacy, Strategic Planning, and Transformation offices

Build supplier and industry peer relationships to continuously monitor market conditions and return innovative ideas to stakeholders

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Commercial Pharmaceuticalsexperience
OR
Master's degree and 4 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Commercial Pharmaceuticals experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Commercial Pharmaceuticals experience
OR
Associate's degree and 10 years of Sourcing and/or Finance and/or Management Consulting and/or Commercial Pharmaceuticals experience
OR

Sourcing Expert with Strong Financial Acumen and Problem-Solving Skills
  • CPM qualification
  • Direct sourcing experience for commercial pharmaceuticals or V&A
  • Solid understanding of procurement, sourcing, category management, supplier management
  • Strong negotiation skills and technical procurement and contracting skills
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk, and innovation considerations


Proactive Leader with Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • High-energy, self-motivated with a desire and ability to excel in a diverse, global, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Compelling and persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

Detailed Thinker Comfortable Evaluating Complex Data from Multiple Sources, Extracting Key Insights, and Driving Business Value
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying root causes and proactively solving problems
  • Ability to understand an analyze from multiple complex sources (e.g., financial, operational)
  • Ability to develop business cases and champion opportunities with quantifiable financial benefits
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, SAP and other ERP systems, etc.


Commercial Pharmaceuticals, Value & Access, Consulting Expert
  • Experience in Commercial pharmaceuticals, payor/health insurance, or other V&A professional experiences.
  • Experience in managing call centers or field/inside sales teams
  • Experience in professional services (consulting in strategy, healthcare, etc.)
